good morning LC (landy community)
I am off with my wife to France beginning of August even though a lot of work done on 110 2.5 na who ever knows? please give me a shout out if any of you are enroute to my destination in Urciers (Indre) its good to know help is near if needed!

Hi, I live in Indre and have a great mechanic with 2 mobile workshops, he has 2 Landys himself. Hope you don't need him. BTW he is not expensive.

Although this has been posted in the LandyZone Internationasl Rescue pages, it is good to know that our friends and colleagues on that side of the Channel are ready and willing to help out.
Quillia, you have a 2.5 NA which is the same engine as mine, and believe it or not, if you give it a little bit of TLC, it will never give you any problems at all, so have faith in the builders and previous maintainers. ;)
I tuned mine for economy, and get around 30mpg around the doors and nearer 40 on a long run. :cool:
Before you set off, might I suggest that you do an oil change in the gear and transfer boxes, as there is a good chance that it has never been done in tha past 30+ years. :eek:
Apart from that, have a wonderful trip.

I remember many years ago a friend of mine set out across the Leigh on sea mudflats to deliver about 60 kilos of anchor chain to a boat, he slung it around his neck and shoulders, we were watching him from the shore as he sunk up to his knees in mud and fell flat on his face pinned down by his load. I took 3 of us to rescue him before the tide turned. We had to save him cos it was his turn to get the first round in that evening.

Cheers Paul always good friendlies across the water! Should be good but always remember 6 P’s ( proper planning etc) have given gearbox and transfer box overhaul . It will be a test as she is ex-mil and they always look after their units just sat still over 10 years. Thank you

Thank you for your advice it is good to hear the 2.5 na are still good to go. I have overhauls gearbox and transfer ! Had to replace input gear with cross drilled , new clutch HD! All done with me my wife and good old block and tackle. Just proving the fact that who needs a garage... give me the open road

Any good pointers at tuning for economy would be great as I have have not had to tinker to much under bonnet yet! So a step by step or good site direction most appreciated Salty

As yours is exMil, you will probably find that the Injector pump has a bracket which clamps it to the block, and with that in place only very basic economy tuning can be carried out.
If you are a musician, your most important bit of tuning equipment will be a stethoscope as I do mine by ear, including the tappets! :D
Apart from that, if you have ever tuned a Mini or a Mk1 or Mk2 Escort, you will find that the basic principles are very similar, as the adjustments are to the fuel delivery amount and the timing. ;);)
It isn't rocket science, it is just a slight 'tickling' of the Suck, Squeeze, Bang, Blow system.
Before I had a quite serious accident last year, I had people coming from all over to have theirs tuned, and they averaged between 8-10mpg difference, although there was a slight trade off with acceleration! :cool:
I even managed to talk a friend in New Zealand through the whole procedure via the wonders of Skype! Unfortunately, my iPady thingy has locked me out, and I'm spending a stupid amount of time trying to remember the password cpmbinations which were used to set it up 10 years ago!! :eek::eek:

I have tuned the injector but not adjusted tappets! Lost a bit of acceleration when I changed clutch 2 mths back but I imagine just breaking the clutch in! Will try tappets

Howdy , it depends which route you're taking but if you are taking the ferry to St Malo then that's near me. Whilst I have the mechanical ability of a blind Wombat I do have a tow rope and am happy to translate if needed. One thing to be aware of is that the national speed limit has now been reduced to 80 kmph on all non-dual carriageways. (well at least it will help the mpg even if it aint gonna do anything to improve the standard of french driving!!!)

Err you can't use a tow rope in France but you can use a fold up ridgid tow bar. You can find one in a Leclerc for abt 25€
 
Thanks Paulindre, I wasn't aware of that! You could have saved me a spot of bother. Although in the past I have only used it to haul people out of snow drifts, mud holes and ditches.:)
