hi all , ive got a freelander TD4 x reg 2001 , have got this knocking noise & whine noise. I notice it more when in full lock and when going into parking spaces. It also happens in reverse.

It also feels like it wants to cut out??

I took it to my local garage who checked CV joints etc , everything ok but he thinks it needs to be seen by a transmission specialist . So off to Land Rover on Monday !!

Just wondered if anyone had ideas what it could be ??

Had a whine on my Freelader recently, more when you let off than on any kind of lock. Turned out to be the propshaft carrier bearing, bought a pair from paddock spares, an hour or so of messing later I have a quiet Freelander again! Like a new car, must have been on the way ou for some time

Worth a look?

what did you use to remove the old bearings from the VCU?

Could be the rear subframe mountings- the captive nuts sometimes break loose. Have you checked the rear diff mounting bushes (usually the front one)?
Try a search on this forum and you should gets the usual results.

check your V.C.U. (Tippex test etc.)
