Hi All, i wonder if you can help - i have found this rattle and its not from the exhaust, but seems to be from the transmission



any help will be very welcome

If you have ACE check the pipes and valve block to be tight enough cos they can make strange sound which can be tricky. If no ACE i have no ideea

no ACE on this old lady - its a discovery2 S so very basic

Doesn't sound to me like anything inside the transmission, so have a really good look around at anything that can be touching anything else.

Have one of the exhaust hangers rusted through?

Or the rubber split or otherwise come off?
Could also be a protective plate of some kind, heatshield or summat.

had a good look about but cant see anything obvious so far

Maybe time to get the stethoscope on and use a more specific search method to locate it more exactly.

Did you discover the source/solution? I have a similar noise that I am assuming to be coming from the transmission.

Does the rattle change if you dip the clutch, stick it in gear and let the clutch out until it bites..... sounds like something is loose inside the bell housing, or on the clutch slave pin.....
