Yesterday, my '04 Disco 2 dropped all her transmission fluid along a two-lane road in Germany. Apparently like many (all?) Discos, the line failed at the factory crimp. The LR dealer in Traunstein re-secured the line using a jubilee clip, pushed 7-8 litres of ATF into the transmission, and had us back on the road promptly. Many thanks to Reinhold for his efficient help.

Question for the board:
Is a jubilee clip a viable long-term solution, or should I replace all or part of the line?

The line appears to be a rubber / alloy hybrid, and it looks difficult to fish in / out of position without collateral damage. The LR board in AU and South Africa are filled with stories about hybrid repairs (cut steel line, replace with a new fabrication from a hydraulic shop, use a pipe union to re-join alloy line). Just curious what members of the board have done.

You can fit two jubilee clips on. I fit good quality branded ones and also carefully spray grease into the worm screw to get them very tight. TBH it’s as good as crimped really.
Personally I would replace the whole flexi hose sections for brand new and re-secure with jubilee clips as it will be showing its age and you can just find the hose itself goes not long after.
