On my '98 Discovery the dipstick tube had fractured where the small bracket is to bolt the tube to the block. Looked like it had been welded before. Managed to sleeve it cos I couldn't get a new one, then supported it on top. Seems like the tube vibrates a lot, but on mine it only leaked on start up. Fine after it had been running, no leaks at all then.
All been washed off, new fluid, drove it, returned to house kept it running, when pressure built up definitely coming out of dipstick, enough to loosen the cap, new fluid now all over the ground !!

Most latter boxes have a banjo bolt with a 6mm pipe fitted running along the top of the box and up the bulkhead but as for anything vehicle specific after 1984 I don't know.
Mines doing the same, bloody auto gearbox I can never get the correct level and I have over filled it. I found the breather on the passenger side of the car at top right of the box, I pulled the pipe out which was on top of the gearbox not up the bulk head, it had melted at the end and was really restricted, I cut the end of a routed it to a better place. It's still ****ing fluid out but I will drop the lot tomorrow and re do. Check your breather pipe banjo has not blocked or the pipe has melted and the box is not breathing. I have seen pics of the dip stick tube with air filters in allowing the box to breathe. Hope you find the cause.
