I'm toying with the idea of dumping the handbrake drum for the discovery type! Anyone done this recently on a discovery 1 v8 automatic box? Your views and opinions will be excepted with open mind

It's going to be one of those are days I wish I had just turned off the main road and dug me self a hole to crawl in

I didn't explain myself very well lol. I don't know whether to scrap the drum hand brake for the next generation of upgrades the disc hand brake! Costs a lot but want to know if the cost is worth it off people who may of converted to it
But thanks for reply m8. Whereabouts are you from? I be from Dorset

How often do u use a hand brake on an auto? is the question as mine is only used when the vehicle is parked up.

Now for something more sensible... Work :)

Got one on my 90 and its been excellent for years in all sorts of crap, never had any isseus with any of the discos I had with std handbrake set up.

So cost out ways the strength of it? So confused now lol. Sod it is will get a new drum and shoes plus springs that all comes in around 60 notes or there abouts opposed to 400 notes for disc upgrade

The long and short of it is the previous owner was a bodger. New pads fcukd discs so I thought narp !, really do the lot. The hb drum looks like a ball of rust so again fcuk it. Then at least I know it's done and done properly (I cut my teeth mechanical wise on my old series 2a) some would say it's a waste of money but I'd rather be safe than pulling my hair out because I used the auto box p setting as my secondary one and totally knacker the gear box because of excessive pressure on it!
That's my reasoning by getting new!!!!

Any perceived additional loading on the park pawl when the vehicle is parked on a slope will happen as soon as P is selected, the use of the hand/parking brake won’t change that.
