Final update, Changed the Transfer change motor and the RR was stuck in low ratio permanently, then changed the transfer control module and all went well for about 2 miles before Gearbox fault appeared on the message centre. So after reading every article I could find I decided to change the gear selection switch on the side of the gearbox. Now done 1k miles and not a single blip. Gear change has never been smoother and I now have a functioning sport mode. Thanks for all the reply's and ideas.

hi where are you based ???????? you say you've changed the control module where is this ????????? also you've changed gear selection switch on gearbox how easy is this and details please "how to " regards mozz

Control module is under the passenger seat, move it all the way forward and its an easy 5 phillip screws to remove, look for a post 98 replacement with the cooling fins, much improved module and a straight replacement. Selector switch is bolted to the o/s of the gearbox, you shall see the selector rod coming from the front of the car. Again very easy swap out. 1 split pin holding in selector rod then 2 13mm nuts to the side of the gearbox. 17mm on the end of the input lever and off she comes. It has a 50cm vent tube that routes to the engine bay just follow it up and remove 10mm nut holding it. Reverse to refit. Both jobs took me an hour and a half all in. Parts second hand off ebay £25. I am located in Glasgow.

Also known as Gear Box ECU, should have adaptive values reset when installed but would probably work without:)

Adaptive values only apply to the canbus gearbox ECU 99 and up 4.0 and 4.6 petrol engines. Never fitted to diesels, so no adaptive values for diesel gearboxes. Just in case anybody is wondering. :)

I think he is refering to the XYZ switch which tells the ECU which position the gear selector is in!
