Forgive my ignorance on this one, probably a straight forward thing. I have just bought a 200tdi disco on a J plate and am not 100% sure on the tranny box operation.
i know the difference between hi and low range gears, but what are the different positions for the diff locks, and is there a warning lamp on the dash anywhere to show if the diffs are locked?
have got the Rave CD's, and they only cover the 300 series (later dash style)
Any help muchly appreciated, thanks

Lever to the right, diff unlocked (normal position) lever to the left diff locked. It should move as easily as a gear lever, but if it hasn't been used much it may be very stiff or even seized (if you force it the linkage can break) There is a light on the dash, orange, looks a bit like an H on its side, that will come on when the diff is locked. This shows the status of the diff, not the lever, they may be a short delay before it engages, and even more of a delay before it disengages.
All this only applies to the centre differential, connecting the front and rear propshafts, it has no effect on the front and rear diffs in the axels.

Re: Transfer Box
any thoughts on my other thread about the lack of drive when the diff lock is off?

He's in NEUTRAL in the transfer box I guess.

normally you crack your knuckles on the radio changing from high to low gear, if it is not in correctly the grears crunch before engaging.

mine shifts from high range to low range fine, but does not seem to want to go to the left to the lock position. Do I need to lift or push while pulling to the left or should it go to the left as smooth as it does from high to low?
Thank you

Diff-lock mechanism can seize up if not used over time, from underneath try squirting wd-40 ish stuff & good dose of wiggling should sort it!
