This bloody transfer box caper continues...

Can someone please confirm that when replacing the transfer box whether you need to use a gasket or some sort of seal between the main gearbox and transfer box.?! Originally I was informed that no seal/gasket was required, however when removing the existing box a gasket appears to have been used. I'm not sure now :(
 
seeing you discovered a old paper one i would hazzard a guess that a gasket is required

nothing at all they arent supposed to be sealed together ,each has its own seal and there is a recess in rear of gearbox so that if either leaks oils can run out of between them rather than migrating into other box
