Hi Guys, a friend of mine has recently bought a 2005 3.0L TD6. When setting of slowly we were hearing a slight nocking, after having it in the air we noticed several worn bushes and anti roll ling with slight play. After replacing these and getting used to the vehicle, we decided to give it some hammer.
When setting of fast from a stand still there were a awful banging which sounded like it were coming from the back, so we had it in the air again swinging from anything that can move. Nothing had any play, so we decided to get it a boot again. This thine it sounded like it were coming from the middle, so we got some wireless hearing devices and placed them around different parts, We finally narrowed it down to the transfer box.
We have removed the transfer box and opened it up to find the chain has a lot of slack. You can also see scoring marks on the case interior from where the chain has been banging.
Unfortunately I can not find a replacement chain from any where, this was on a Saturday afternoon so many places were closed.
I have seen a replacement on Ebay at the cost of £245 + £8 P&P, which they claim cannot be bought from the supplier. There are not real marking or numbers on the chain other then "morse HY-VO", there is nothing i can find on google other then information the P38.
Does anyone know the part number for the chain? Or know where i can get one cheaper?
The only other information I can find is it approx 1.7 inch wide, has 45 links and has 1 Blue link, the transfer box casing also has BMW NV225 stamped on it.
