This won't come off. I can get it to the end of the prop shaft bolts but one shoe appears to be sticking and has jammed at an angle.

Prior to attempting removal I backed off the adjuster and the drum rotates freely.

Even when I return the drum to its fully seated position, it's now locked solid.
 
I've applied a great deal of both. The only other thing I can think to do is soak the shoes in penetrating fluid to help them slide.
 
You have to keep the drum almost perfectly straight as you're pulling it off, oo-er missus, any other movement seems to lock a shoe onto the drum and hold it. I also found rotating it as you pulled helped a lot.
 
Never tried a Landy drum but I found for regular break drums which stuck like this pushing it back into place whilst smartly smacking the drum on the rounded surface often freed off the shoe. You can then have another go at extracting the drum.
 
You could try tapping around the drum with a rubber mallet while trying to get it to rotate again. A gentle shock wave (careful not to damage the drum) may just budge the shoe enough to free it.
 
I've gone way past the rubber mallet stage. I've been beating the crap out of it with a lump hammer.

I'm not bothered about keeping this drum as it's rod operated. I have another which is cable operated, so I can swap the bits around.
 
It's not in the landy. I've removed the one in situ a few times without drama.

Ha, ha. Ok, underestimated the amount of brute force applied. :)
How about drilling a hole, or two, through the face so you can get a decent screw driver in to lever the shoe or tap it a bit?
 
Well that was a bit silly. Resumed my war with the brake tonight and then noticed the two screwheads either side of the adjuster. Unbolted them which allowed the shoes, adjuster and handbrake link to come away as one with the drum.

Very simple. Brains over braun. Wish I had noticed them earlier! Posting in case it helps anyone else.

The issue was both the shoes had tilted and jammed in the drum. I was only able to free them by chiselling the adjuster out.

The shoe is either just binding on it tipping it slightly and jamming it or there is a bad ridge on the edge of the drum and it will continue to get stuck on that.

First thing is make sure you back off the shoe adjuster or totally undo it (it only has 4 positions so don't turn it and turn it thinking it will back off more, it has lobes on it) then try and twist it off rather than just pulling it and it may come off, applying some care and patience will almost always work and not cause any damage. When thrashing away in desperation it always causes visible and untold damage.

If it is really stuck get a puller on it or last resort cut off and replace.
 
As above, but don't just unscrew the adjuster, remove it completely, and then under your seating centre panel, back off the brake adjuster on the cable, so that the cable is completely slack.
It sounds as though a very slight lip has been worn on the inside, and that's possibly one reason that it's difficult to remove.

It's nice everyone's so keen to help though :) Would have been better to have got the advice whilst I was still trying to fix it like :) But I'm grateful all the same and it will help someone in the future.

I hear you, I guess sometimes it's quicker to post a solution on the simpler stuff than read to be honest. As you say, it leaves lots of advice for the future, and too much information on a vehicle forum is never a bad thing.
 
For my next problem, I'm just going to post that I've solved it and wait for everyone to come along and tell me a better way to do it and that I did it all wrong. :) :p
 
Pleased you got it sorted. It's a bit annoying when you spend time like that getting stuck and frustrated and then spot the obvious. We've all been there though if truth be known. Job done though and that's the main thing. Faster progress now :)
