So it looks like I'm ****ing in the wind. Any easy way of finding the problem at all or is it just 1 of them time consuming pulling every plug
Check battery terminals, earth straps from engine & battery to chassis, connections on starter motor and back of alternator for starters. Any of those loose or corroded could be the problem.

Ok I'll have to have a look over weekend to dark now hope a find it really doing me head in starting to not like the car now coz a carnt get it right

With a complex vehicle and gearbox there are many different failure modes so telling you what is wrong is very difficult...

Have you confirmed you have a good voltage level yet? As without that you are just ****ing in the wind.

If it rumbles or vibrates between 40-50, the TQ is on the way out and on the petrol models this is caused by a failed O ring that seals the B and C clutches and causes reduced hydraulic pressure holding A cluth in, this causes it to slip which the TQ tries to control which leads it to judder and vibrate...eventually wearing out the TQ friction material....

That is just one of the most common failures of the box...

There are many many more. The L322 requires patience and very deep pockets to run and maintain.

Not engaging 5th gear could be a sign the F clutch (I think that is the one) is failing and slipping....

In Sport mode the TQ is commanded to slip to maintain maximum torque from the engine as locking up can bog down the engine hampering performance....

So if your box doesn't engage 5th in normal mode this could mean 5th is slipping to much for the TQ to be able to lock up correctly....whereas in Sport mode the TQ doesn't need to lock up and hence why it will engage...

This is my simplistic view on it....Bemble is the man to ask as he knows these boxes like the back of his hand....

Have you checked fluid level and condition? Filter condition?

But first....sort out the suspect voltage issues!

Edited for accuracy:)

Thanks for th advice but got sick of the car cut my losses sold it. Thanks you were helpful I just did not have the time

Sorry to hear that...

Range Rover ownership is not easy, they are unreliable, expensive and needlessly complex vehicles.

They are a hobby and a lifestyle, not a conveyance.....best of luck in your next purchase....and if you do decide to get another Range Rover...no doubt we'll all still be here !!!

An L322 is for self flaggelating masochists like Saint.V8:rolleyes:
They are more a hobby and electronics training system than a means of transport.

Mode of transport ???
What fool has been driving theirs around, I just look at mine as a massive mechanical / electronic / electric activity set.
I've said it dozens of times, the most pleasure I get from mine is from fixing it although I would prefer it to be a bit cheaper on parts

Hi. Sorry to steal your thread but I have these exact issues. On an 04 3.0 d with gm box and 135k miles. Drives perfect 1-4 then soon as it hits 5 it goes intolerant fail safe. When I'm on the diagnostics in the gearbox ecu it reads a low voltage but on the air or engine ecu it reads fine...

Could be the torque converter on it's way out

Get the gearbox oil and filter replaced and inspect the oil for swawf damage

Could be too late sadly :(

That's wot my local lr specialist said too. Had just serviced the box only 600 miles before this started. And have since had it out an cleaned and put a new torque converter in. Still the same.

Sure the OP doesnt mind you stealing his thread, he just sold it - problem solved. if you read back over the thread, most point towards an electrical issue, if Bemble is passing by he will most likely point you in the right direction, if he dosent know, sell it:D
