What are you basing this on?

Past experience from GM transmission getting rebuilt, in a transmission shops here. Always cheaper than a new one from a Main dealer.

Same as West slope on his radiator last year, his went bad, checked with a LR dealer was in the $400 range, told him to go to a radiator shop and fixed for less than 1/2 of new.

Seems a bit optimistic.
Get in the rangie section where people know rather than guess and youll get ya answer.
 
Cud they fix it rather then havin to pay for new gearbox

You need an independent view of the codes given by the vehicle -

the GM box and it's wiring ... :eek: and the very common fluid cooling problems ...

GM 5ATs are fitted with fluid temperature sensors.
However, in the event of a sensor failure the ECU should default to a value derived from the engine coolant temperature and a P code should be flagged & stored depending on the failure mode :

As I mentioned before, you need to get the codes read soonest ...
