Ok so i know this could be a billion things but please please bare with mei have looked on all forums befor posting

RR L322 2006 TD6 222000k ( im trying for 500K)
gearbox replaced at 108k
New Batt
Gearbox (GM) fluid and filter changed at LR at 200k

im getting Trans Failsafe Prog when i boot it hard or try incline after say 10 miles, i can clear the limp mode if i turn off and wait for the fault to clear of the dials lcd
i also notice that the Temp sits at just above 1/4 just above blue as normal and the heaters are some what pants in the winter but when i get TFP the temp is always at half way, once cleared and i drive for a few miles it goes down to the 1/4 mark again until i boot it (kickdown) or try steep incline again then temp rises .....

i have read many many posts about TFS however none i have found have the temp thing going on... so i have read that on some models they can suffer with blocked rads (bottom 8 rows or something) also the oil cooler ???? this in my mind would, with the heater temp being so low in the winter could well be the issue or am i barking up the wrong tree ????

HEEELLLPPP

Best get her connected up to diagnostics.

A blocked Rad would cause the opposite to an over cooling condition/not getting up to temp..

When the box was replaced - was the valve block also replaced with a Sonnax unit or a rebuilt original?

The valve blocks are made of cheese on the Td6 and is the cause for the gearbox issues encountered most commonly......

i believe it was re build original but cant be 100% as it was before i owned her although it belonged to my late father.

shifts lovely and smooth @Henry_b

Good.

incorrect ratio for 2nd would signify in ordinary circumstances a faulting valvebody solenoid..

Again over 100k if it's the "original" valvebody as said above they are not the best.

Crack the filler plug and have a look at the fluid.

If it is only a duff valve block, I believe this can be done with the box in situ.....trouble is, once the valve block goes south, the internal drive clutches start slipping and wearing out - then you get Trans Fail Safe warnings....so the presence of the warnings could mean the box is already worn internally. @Bemble would be able to confirm.

As for cost, for a box rebuild and a Sonnax valve block, you could be north of £2k prehaps even £2.5k.

The GM5LE box when over 100k is prone to failure, oil and filter changes will only delay the inevitable.....as far as I know the only real 'cure' is a Sonnax valve block and a transmission rebuild.

In a case slipping clutches can ause the differential rpm of the input and output shaftspeed sensors to fall outside their limits for the specified gear which then causes the ECU to throw a P073 etc etc code.

I:E incorrect ratio..

A duff valvebody will cause problems in the 'box..

But as Saint says if the Valvebody is shot the gearbox itself isn't too far behind
