hi i noticed other day when landy wa on ramp at work that the front output flange has some play up and down if i grab propshaft theres about 1-2mm of movement, so this is on the list of jobs to do. has any1 changed one on a td5 disco? if so what they like to do and do i need any specialist tools apart from slide hammer? ive done loads of searching :D

are you sure its poor there is some movement in shaft ,but is easy enough to do ,remove flange 30mm socket ,pry out seal remove circlip ,replace nut or flange as well so you can lever shaft out brg comes to ,renew brg stc1130 and seal ftc4939

Mines got a little play in the front bearing but it seems happy and doesn't leak.

Maybe just monitor it?

Mine? Just the flange moving a little. It's tight on the shaft, just a little play in the bearing I'd say.

It's minimal, translates to about 1mm play at the tips of the flange, maximum.

As I say, doesn't leak so can't be that bad. It did used to be perfect but I think a lack of wide angle prop caused it to wear perhaps...

its normal front end of is supported by ball bearing rear by diff gear so shaft will rock or move some unlike diff where pinion is supported by 2 taper bearings and should be no movement at all
