From Chris Mitchell ...

"Well, great news - TrailWise2 is now available, exclusively to GLASS members. All existing GLASS members are automatically pre-registered for TW2 and will have received instructions via email.

TW2 records BOATs (Byways Open to All Traffic) and UCRs (Unclassified County Roads, shown as ORPAs on OS maps) in England and Wales. ‘Legacy’ data (data and user evidence from previous versions of Trailwise) is also provided as an optional overlay for reference purposes. The system is mobile and tablet friendly.

To access TW2, join GLASS, the national body representing green lane users. Sign up on the GLASS web site and help support the work they do to keep green roads open to all users.

www.trailwise2.co.uk

Comments - TW2 users are encouraged to share experiences and information by adding “User Comments” and photos against individual lanes when they have driven them.

Trailwise1 will remain available to existing registered users for a limited time, but will no longer be updated."

Looks nice and easy to use.

Will be interesting to see how it works on the Hudl2.

Cheers

Just a quick idea of how it looks now ...

Some differences ...

Three layers of routes, Byways, Legacy routes, UCR's

Routes now follow the proper course of the route, not a straight line from start to finish.

Legacy info is still available, but won't be updated, it's basically a 'snapshot' of what the database was.

'Everything' ....

Zoomed in to a local image showing all three layers.

Hope you like .. ;)

TW2 has had a couple of 'teething troubles'. Some of it down to the uptake by people, which has inundated the servers and has, a couple of times, gone 'over capacity' .. we've scratted behind the sofa and reckon this ought to be behind us now we've found a 50p for the slot-meter ... ;) Some of the issue is the addition of extra base maps and layers which will be filtering through soon, thanks for your patience. There has also been a lot of (from certain quarters) moaning about the lack of old Trailwise info being ported over. Actually the info is all there on the 'Legacy' layer, you just need to read instructions and look for it. Local reps are trying to update every lane on their patch, some quicker than others, I'm useless without my Landy, so it's taking a bit longer than some, me pushbike's a bit painful to ride nowadays .. :)

An official line ...

"TW2 update. We currently have 1618 user comments submitted and approved and more coming in every day. The comments that contain information on closures, obstructions or TROs are checked by Admin and the TW2 route details amended accordingly.
TW2 now has two options for base mapping, both are Ordnance Survey products. Zooming in will give street names, and zooming out will give the more familiar OS route maps. We are testing a new 'button' which switches between the base map layers - this will give all registered users a choice of maps and the default map has the capability to cope with a higher usage rate. The route details pages mapping is unchanged at this stage.
The team are investigating other base mapping options with a view to giving even more choices of maps very soon.
Remember that any problems you encounter with TW2, or any suggested improvements, should be sent to Admin via the "Contact Us" page."
