I have a twin axle car transporter trailer running on 13 inch wheels with a stud fitment (PCD) of 4x140 or 4x139.7

Yesterday 30 miles from home at 4am in the morning on of my tyres gave up but luckily I was able to limp home on the remaining one on that side.

I fond out that my tyres are just standard usless old caravan tyres.

Are standard car tyres and stronger or can i by specialist trailer tyres for this application?

yer best bet is get steel belted van tyres theyre a hell of a lot stronger and far more suited to this purpouse

id ask whats available at a local ATS or kwikfit centre they are normally verry helpful with advise on this matter

Hi, I had the same issue with my trailer, went to a local tyre specialist and got some 8 ply commercial tyres, if putting much on the trailer I wouldnt want anything less. Only paid about £50 each. It appears that a lot of twin axled trailers are running on totally inadequate tyres esp if home made trailer - like mine was!

Commercial tyres only on my Rice horse trailer...about £60 each inc VAT. Gotta be to take the weight. Any good tyre specialist can advise you.

cheers guys ill keep my eye out now i know what i need. Mine is an old but not a home built trailer i just think over the years someone has fitted the wrong tyres.

You dont say what the tyre size is , as the pcd etc is to some degree irrelevant

The things you need to be careful of is fitting a tyre that is too tough for the rim . as it is a possibility with some earlier 13 rims esp if too wide for rim .
The tyre you most likely are looking at is 8pr in 165/80 r 13 or 175/80r13
You also need to evaluate what you are carrying load wise , and if a change to 14" is possible or needed . HTSH

My plan was to get some wheels of a car etc but because of my pcd hardly anything fits. The tyres i have are 175/80r13. Im looking at a few 8ply sets at the moment.

tyres should have their max load moulded on the sidewall in the small print that nobody ever looks at. obviously the higher the better
