Ok here's one for the sparkies amongst you..

I have two trailers; both are wired to proper ISO colouring etc. On one the "trailer connected light" flashes with the indicators on the dash panels, as it should do. On the other it doesn't! (An Ifor Williams Cattle trailer). Can't work it out. All lights (inidicators, hazards etc work fine on both trailers!). Anyone know what has to be right to make the "trailer connected" light flash??

Why? if they both work correctly who cares.. but there must be something out of place for it not to work.

I would check the plug corresponds with the other then get your testers out. are there any bulbs that have been put in (edit LEDs not volts as i said )? just throwing ideas in the pot.

Has the trailer thats not working got LED lighting? They dont draw enough current to show the extra electrical load to light the trailer indicator. Had the same trouble with my Ifor GD trailer when I swapped out the bulbs for LEDs.

Yes, exactly! Fitted LED units on the Ifor. So I need something to draw some more power? Any suggestions?

We had the same problem with one of our artics at work and it confused the hell out of the CANBUS electrics on the tractor unit.
I believe some sort of resistor needs to be put into the wiring to make it appear to the towing vehicle that a trailer has been plugged in - basically what Shifty said, LED lights on their own don't pull enough current.

Any decent auto shop will sell ballast resistors that mimic the heavier electrical load of a conventional bulb. They need to be bolted to something metal though as they get hot in use. Simply wire them in series with the indicator LEDs.

Quick google threw these up

I'm sure there are many similar items around.
