The proper relay is better. When you indicate the trailer light flashes once and so is not annoying.

I have a proper one and for whatever reason it doesn't do that. It does flash when the electrics are connected or when the hazard lights are on without the trailer electrics.

I did convert the plug in 7 pin to 13 pin electrics, but I wouldn't have thought that would make a difference. (Unless I have wired something wrong, but the lights all work properly.

The Trailer flasher relay has a sensor that monitors the current drawn by the indicators. If the trailer is connected, the current exceeds a pre-set threshold and illuminates the trailer symbol on the dash. When the hazards are on, the pre-set current is also exceeded so the trailer symbol flashes with them too.
If you don't like the trailer symbol, you can fit the standard relay. However this then breaks the law. The way around this is to fit an audible warning relay. This beeps when only the trailer lights flash. It shouldn't beeb with the hazards either.

Without trailer connected and with hazards flashing, mine lights up the trailer symbol and red warning triangle on the dash.

is this normal?

When using hazards with no trailer it will flash all the time , when indicating right or left it should just flash once (again no trailer) as for relay I tried the one sent with the kit this was useless fitted hella one perfect

ah, thanks for that and I did notice it light up occasionally when indicating.

mines a hella and a good piece of kit

I have a genuine LR flasher relay and the functionality is the same as the handbook - 1 flash of trailer light with nothing connected.

What make/part number is your flasher relay?

I just fitted a 4 way relay to mine and it works as it should, that is with a trailer connected the trailer light illumimnates on the dash and a beeper sounds in rear luggage space in time with the flasher. Basically it's reminding me that I have a fook-orf caravan on my ass! :D
