Noticed that my front tyre is going bald on the inside, so popped down to local tyre place to get the tracking done and check tyre still legal.

'Sorry mate, we can't do that here! you need to take it to LR as you need a specialist tracking setup'

So, question is, do you know of any of the mainstream tyre fitters who carry the right tracking setup I can go to..

Anyone of them should be able to do the tracking. Balancing can be a problem because many of the wheel balancers aren't big enough to take larger 4x4 wheel & tyre combo's But any "commercial vehicle" tyre fitters will be able to balance em for you.
 
Well, popped into Central and they laser checked the tracking.. Spot on, nowt wrong with it..

So, any ideas..

Ball joints maybe? I have a 2 inch bald ring on the inside of the NS fron tyre..
 
Check the track rod & top/bottom ball joints. Another cause could be faulty viscous coupling in transfer box-put steering on full lock then drive slowly, is one front tyre "scrubbing" ??
 
i had the same thing with the tread wear, my local tyre centre had no trouble checking and adjusting mine after i fitted new track rod/drag link in febuary.
noticed the inner edge thinner than outer edge a while back and the tracking was fine!
front shocks though looked as though they bean leaking so i changed them (for koni's) and then realised how bad they where.
as theres no other apparent problems il see if the tyre wear continues...

cant understand how dodgy shocks could cause that wear pattern!!!

go to the place that couldnt do it and tell them there w*****s!
(dont tell them i said though)
 
Funny that, I am about tpo change my shocks for Koni's.. I have a guy very near that will do all the work (Safari Engineering), and will ask him to check the BJ's and rods at the same time..

As for the other place, well, wont be going back there for any tyres :D
 
ATS will do it, kwik fit wont.......lucky for us all coz there a bunch of cowboys
 
i realy do wonder why they wont do it!! its got to be easier than most cars, no jacking reuired either!!!
it realy does baffle me!
 
Funny that, I am about tpo change my shocks for Koni's..
you wil be pleased you did!
and i recon you can do it in 2 hours easy, infact il say 1 an a half hours, the rears took me 20 mins! (10 mins a side) all you need is basic tools, axle stands and a trolley jack makes life easy.
 
well, as Ive been away for a while and had some spare time, went down to get the truck checked out.

Straightend the wheels then wobbled from left to right for a while whilst the guy was under the engine and low and behold, tracking arm needs replacing...

Good catch those that replied.
