I had to get a pair of front tyres because of bad wear caused by the tracking being out. I would have done the work using the straight edge and string process as I've done on several cars in the past however I couldn't turn the adjustable rod.
This is where your local tyre man comes in I thought but not so, "don't do them mate got to go to Landrover" is what I was told at 6 places. I went to landrover in the end and they had to remove all the rods and apply heat to release them. Took around 2 hours and they replaced 2 joints cost me £80. Can do the string thing now but as I'm not an off roader I don't reckon it's going to need doing for another 20 years.
have you got a tow ball? if so what i did was run a piece of string round all the tyres from the tow ball, like you would wrap a present if you get my drift and then set the front wheels to zero degree toe in/toe out by adjusting the TREs until the front wheels were straight compared to the rears , it was a piece of **** to do.
If you are running any kind of MT tyres or ever take it off road then having it set at the tyre place is a waste of money as it will be out again in no time at all, had mine upto 110kmh the other day and there was no wheel shake at all so i must have got it right
