Does any anyone else have a much problem getting tracking done on a 90 as I do? Or is it just the west mids is full of jobs worth ****ers!!!

arrh.....rant over

So yea anyone else have problems getting "large" (235/85 or 265/75) wheels tracked? Cause it would def make me feel better

noipe - no problem - but it is supposed to be a bugger to do - because landies have a two rod system and they are normally corroded to buggery - took my series in with 760 16 tyres on and it took the guy an hour - normally its a 10 minute job on a mondeo or summat similar.

It'll be out again about 10 mins after you next take it off road anyway... A landrover is one of the few vehicles you can get away with tracking up yourself with a tape measure, some bits of string and some common sense.

Yea I know... I loosened it all and cooper slicked all first as well, but no, quick fit (one of many I've tried) won't do it cause it has a steering box?!!! WHAT! I did argue but the simpleton couldn't get his head round the idea that it doesn't make any ****ing difference!!! and the others can't the tracking stuff round the tyres

was it a "brand name" place you went to?

Thats what I've been doing, with string but I don't where it needs to be, if that makes sense, is it parallel or does it have some toe in? Cheers

Supposed to toe in but only by about 1 degree or something ridiculous - I run mine parallel as 1 degree or so of toe in with MT's on is going to make sod all difference.

duz this help

The idea of Toe-in and toe-out, is that when the car is cruising along more or less straight ahead, the DRAG or DRIVE (depends if front/four wheel drive or rear wheel drive) will take up all the slack in the steering and suspension, and if all goes well the tyres and wheel will point more or less exactly where the car is going, and the tyres won't get scrubbed to bits by running sidey-ways.

Because our lovely Landies are fitted with bloody big axles, and hefty swivels, and one stout track-rod between the wheels, we can set our tracking easily.

Setting tracking when the car is just sitting on the ground not going anywhere isn't usually going to do much good in most cars, but will be fine in ours.

I would like to know what the steering box has got to do with it. Just goes to show the KwikFit asshole is smarter than us.

I think it's something along the lines of:

"Nah mate, can't do that 'cos of the steerin' box see... ain't bin trained on them, complicated like yer see"

While thinking:

"If I tell this bloke we're not allowed to do 'em I'll have time for a quick fag now I can't smoke in here thanks to the smoking ban"

So it's the governments fault really.

steering box eh? i took me jag, with rack and pinion steering, (steering rack to the unedjamacated) in to get the steering done, french **** sez " we can't do that! its too complicated!"

so i did it by trial an error

The Kwikfit near Old Trafford did mine, it took them a bit of heat and a lot of swearing, but after they had freed off the threads, no probs.

Why would it ever need to be "adjusted" ?

If it was right once before, what can possibly have changed to make it wrong now?
