So when I bought them should I have got x2 RH thread ball joints?
The diagrams show two different part No's for LH & RH
THANKS Bemmy

Pretty sure the draglink has a lh & rh And the track rod (as said) has 2 rh ends

Just a quick update I've checked the ball joints I got for my disco they are as follows
STRRTC5869 RH THREAD
STRRTC5870 LH THREAD
Discocool,
As stated earlier
When I removed the LH old ball joint and tried to replace the new LH ball joint it wouldn't screw in either way but the RH ball joint fits a treat, worryingly

I got these from paddock, they are Delphi not britpart

Any ideas
Bemmy

Not in a month of Sundays will a RH ball joint fit in the position of a LH one. As I stated earlier, both track rod ball joints are RH.

the thread size is 11/16 uns a special thread, you can find 2nd hand right hand taps on e bay but I had to have a left hand tap specialy made at £125:eek:

If disco 2 one end is fixed so welded straight on and the other end is for adjustment pretty obvious when you get under there, they are pretty cheap

Discocool,
It's. Sat on my drive with a RH ball joint, threaded into the passenger side (LH)

I've done a search and the tracking rod requires x2 RH Threaded ball joints so I require another RH threaded ball joint.

Monkey isnt that a P38?? crimped end??

Track rod is all Rh thread one end has a section already mentioned that done the adjustment. Quite handy to use for making tools actually usually end up throwing them away and relocating the steering damper at the front tucked out the way then fit a decent track rod.

Thanks to all who helped with their knowledge / experiences, I'll put this one to bed now,

Cheers Bemmy

Can someone just clarify the drag link end what side is r/h thread and what is the l/h? Reason is I bought 3x to do the two track rod ends which I have two R/h threads and I got one which is L/ H , presumably for the drag link. But is this the correct one for the swivel end of drag link?

See my post #6. and others Or is it u don't believe us?

I don't see why its so difficult, only one drag link ball joint on near side which has a LH thread and drop arm end is RH thread.

Ive just got the delphi ones from paddocks.
They did mention the joints could of been altered but I just ordered the original set and decided if they were wrong then for the price I would just order some more and keep the excess as spares.

part numbers were
3 x STRRTC5869D
1 x STRRTC5870D

odd one is drivers side pointing upwards

"odd one is drivers side pointing upwards"

Nig that's contradicting discool above. Track rods r/h, drag link swivel end l/h , and steering arm end r/h ?

Here we go again :D

I guess I'll find out when I tack the old ones off, of you want a job done..........

The function of both the drag links ball joints is unaffected what ever end they are fitted, although the one with the LH thread was fitted buy the factory at the hub/swivel end, no doubt most D1s around are still like that.
The ball joint on the drop arm does face up so nut on top, while at the hub end it faces down.
