I'm planning to put a Toyota 3B diesel in my s2a LWB, I know that adaptor rings are available through www.dellowauto.com.au. I haven't found any other company that sells them. I was wondering if anybody has experience with fitting that engine, and has pics of the conversion. I want to connect the engine to the original gearbox in the beginning but will prob fit a LT77 and LT230 it the future (with range rover axles). Is the bolt patern the same of those gearboxes, so i won't get in trouble later on!?

engine specs can be found here: http://www.off-road.com/tlc/faq/engine.html

cheers

Ah dont you just love threads that get brought back from the dead :)

It it really worth going to that engine? - 90BHP from a 3.5 litre doesn't exactly sound awe inspiring.

Yeah, for that small BHP gain, you might aswell just tune the 2.25 a bit, maybe get a stage 2 cylinder head and a racing camshaft etc...
If you want an engine transplant, do a rover V8 in whatever size you can get, probs 3.5 and super charge it or something.

"And fit lyk unda glow neonzzzz and bucket seatts and a big shiney K&N nd' da dump valvvveeee" :D :D :D Chav :p

A "racing camshaft" in a Series 2a. I wonder what it could race? LOL

I like the sound of Supercharged V8 though....weeeee....shame about the whole rubbish handling/stopping/ride/ issue that will probably cause soon death.

Yes i did go ahead with this conversion. did it twice now actually.
Although i did change my plans a bit.. instead of using the original gearbox i used the toyota 4 speed gearbox that usually goes with the early 3B engine. It can handle the power, is a lot stronger. Also an advantage is that you can engage and disengage 4wd while driving. This conversion is quite a lot of work, it is a lot easier to get the conversion ring and keep the original gearbox. I will send you a link with the entire conversion proces of the first car that i did.

Engine swap

I like the 3B engine for several reasons.
- power/torque( not from turbo's or electrical stuff)
- no timing belt or chain... but gears!!!
- it's japanees.. so it won't break down very quickly. specially because i want to use it for expeditions.
- its a 4x4 engine.. so torque at right rpm... oilpan that is deep enough to handle extreme angles
- parts are available everywhere.

Would you not be better off to get a jap 4x4 that it came in?

but jap 4x4's just look ugly, series landys look ace,
series landy's break down lots if yer dont look after them propper, jap 4x4's keep going untill the wheels fall off!

might as well get the best of both worlds!! :D

Exactly... landy looks great it's got character, jap 4x4 are ugly!
Best of both worlds...! At least now it's a proper expedition vehicle..
2.25 diesel can't handle the weight of an expedition vehicle.
No fun going down into africa with a land rover that is reving like crazy at 50 mph.
