ive got a dooozel p38 auto and i wanna use it to tow my gte to shows, also to pull the trailer as n when.

what i wanna know is ...when towing, do i need to be in low drive, or does it not matter.

i towed a car the other day from devon, and its only now that ive thought about it:doh:

thanks
stu

If it's a heavy load it's best to start off in low but low box has a max speed of about 30mph so once you are moving then switch back to high.

how could i do that mate???... you have to be in neautral for 10 secs whilst the txb switches over:confused:

That ****es on the bonfire a bit. With a defender and disco you can go from low to high on the move.:doh:

its actually better to be moving at about 2mph when changing ratio, but you wanna be stopped when popping into diff lock

why stopped? As long as you have traction or lift off the throttle to prevent wheel spin you can be moving.

I have towed 3.5 tonne with my diesel auto, no probs the auto box and torque converter takes care of it.

i didnt ave any problems tbh, apart from getting the ride height right so that i wasnt fishtailing every 5 seconds.

its only because i saw a thread earlier saying about being in low to tow a gypsi wagon that i started to think:D

Gypsie wagon? Old type?? Cart wheels???? I would suggest that low range might have been the choice as the max speed was probably 10mph:eek::eek::eek:

Locking the eas at normal ride height, should sort the fish tailing problem.

There's a certain amount of micky taking towards another member, low box would only be needed if you wish to drag a really heavy load up a very steep hill......although I do use it to reverse my trailer up into my front garden so I don't have to slip the clutch.

i never altered the ride height from m'way and never had a problem with snaking but r/r say to lock it at normal height for towing as zzr said
