Just got back from 1st trip with my 90 Td5 CSW towing a 26 foot caravan,,was mostly on A and B roads and she averaged 28 to the gallon....You Beauty :D:):D:):D

Feck me..........i only get that without towing!!

Could very well be good driving habits. easy on the throttle alittle slower speeds, etc.

now are all the factors the same, motor size,tire size, transmissions, year of land rover. everything needs to be exactly the same to get a accurate answer.:D:D:D

I tow up to 2 and a half ton loads quite often with my 110 td5 and I always get between 26 - 28 mpg towing or not. The only thing that seems to make any difference to the mpg is when I go above 60 miles an hour (not towing of course) then I'm lucky to get 22 mpg.

Thats the point 60 is the sweet spot and I bet 55 is the best for towing, anything more and its like a drunkin sailor and just guzzles the diesel

:beer2::beer2::beer2:

I was never above 60 and very rarely below 50 , once I got into 5th I never seemed to change gear at all unless it was a pretty steep incline..As a tow vehicle the 90 was faultless..Happy Days...............

thats good going! dad towed my 90 on a twin axle trailer behind his 90 and used £50 of petrol to travel 50 miles!:eek::eek::eek:

No petrol engine can compete with a diesel for towing, the high torque at low revs on the diesel makes it more economical. They are not many petrol lorries around are there.

I towed a caravan the other day and it didn't affect economy.
I think it's down to the fact that the car is already brick shaped so the caravan doesn't really affect the aerodynamics so once the caravan is rolling it doesn't really need any more fuel than usual.
Wish I was still getting 25/28 like I used to before tweaking. Now I must only be getting 20. I keep meaning to work it out properly.

Was thinking of getting a EGR bypass kit and chipping it but don't think I'll bother now,,it can stay just as it is,,, Standed :):)
