in the old days a diesel engine would just keep going as the fuel pump was mechanical but these day's everything is electric but yes it will run for a few miles if you have a charged up battery

have you not got breakdown cover through a bank account or insurance company? It's amazing how many people have cover without realising it.

If you drive without the crank pulley and associated drive belts you will have no power steering and no water pump, so the engine will overheat quite quickly and you will need arm muscles like Popeye!

If you don't have breakdown cover then hire a recovery truck with driver. I've had to do this twice to get my hipp to a garage. Both times it was around £50+vat. We is talking a truck where the back slides oft and ma hippo was driven or winched up. Hence travelling with all wheels oft the ground. Truck had to drive 6 miles to get to me, then 10 miles home after delivering ma hippo to the garage. Most will be happy for you to travel in the truck if you ask. It's not that eggpensive when you think of it.
