I intend to use the wifes freelander 1 (2004 Tdi4) for towing the family tourer. I plan to fit a step and bumper protector to the towbar....has anyone done this and were they picked up by the reversing sensors when in normal use, ie. `van not hitched up??

I have a towbar raiser fitted to mine, it raises it up by 78mm, but it's a dual raiser, so has another setting some 30mm higher.
I can't see it being picked up by the parking sensors, so long as the sensors aren't right next to it, as fir the step, not a clue mate.

The bumper sensors on mine (TD4 06 HSE) don't pick up the towbar, I just have to remember to turn them off when I am actually towing though :)

Any chance of a pic to see how the step looks?
Pics as requested. The Freelander is not really tall enough to need a step for reaching in to the back or washing it or whatever but I wanted it for reaching in to the roofbox when it is on without having to stand on the car. The step came came in a galvanised gold colour but a couple of coats of rattle can black did the trick.
Didn`t upload, try again...

That looks good, i'm thinking of fitting one to get to the roof box, picking the car up this week.
