Ok 24mm nylon rope is for most jobs perfect.strops are for winching and standing recovery which equates to not very stuck 99% of the time.

Ropes you can snatch im not on about kinetic thats another debate use the towing vehicles weight to your advantage to unstick stuck vehicle be it 2mph typical use or 20mph (comp recovery use) a rope in good condition rated and attached to a rated recovery point is great.

Strops are perfect for winching and likewise vehicles that's a wee bit
Stuck by means of tensioning I.e taking up all slack in strop and then pulling away. Most things stuck badly this will not work unless towing vehicle has excessive grip.

If you try an snatch or drive off letting a strop go taught to try and use some vehicle weight all you will do is rip off rated tow points shackles and damage the strop itself not o mention cause damage to all occupants backs and necks plus at the Nd of it the vehicle is still usually stuck but now with damaged rec points and hurt driver. The forces involved in a strop suddenly going taught is one of the reasons you would never use a wire rope unless for winching. Forces are hundreds of tonnes instantly on all connecting points.

Ropes because they take the aggression out and the time period it takes to stretch and go taught spreads he loading out and more importantly smooths out the whole thing.

I can go on and on ad have done the reason ropes are almost 10 times the price of strops is because they are more versatile.

I have strops I use them for winching or for a bridal on motors not blessed with rec points a five quid Strop around an old dead disco minus rated rec points is better to attach my rope to than said heap.

That's what I thought. Thanks for that jai. A strop is designed for lifting so ok for winching.

(actually looks like a bunch of retards, the def driver seemed ok except angle but where they are getting a straigh pull is semi difficultish Although he should be aware that reverse is the weakest gear in the gearbox to be towing with. The Disco its a hidious disco and a J**P what more to say.

I've used cables strops chains and ropes for a variety of extraction purposes. and never had any of them fail

If your not into competitions, or extreme P&P. then you'd have to be very very very fooking unlucky to have a strop snap.

I have a 25mm (approx) Sheathed Multifiliment ships Hawser line that I tend to use most. as it has enuff stretch to take any shock loading the numpty behind you is likely to impose. Due to braking/steering away from you or failing to engage drive as you start the recovery.

Note Procomp Semi kinetic strops are up there with ropes as they have some stretch. My comments regarding strops are just that lifting strops you buy from screwfix, tool station anything with some stretch is getting better (except bungee cheapo ropes). For the outlay £50 for a rope Mine has lasted nearly 8 years and its not been looked after its dead now tho but £50 for 8 years stupid abuse suits me fine.

Don't know looks like a blinged up kinetic rope to me kinetic ropes are ok if used correctly very rarly needed if you have a decent 24mm or 35mm nylon rope

5 MTS X 24 MM NYLON RECOVERY / TOW ROPE WITH SHACKLES | eBay

Throw the shackels away worthless unless rated, The rope is ok I prefer 8 meters nice to get a straighter pull and can be halfed to 4 meters to gain a straighter pull if req.

I will be buying a reel of this stuf to splice up myself next year sometime. I need to make an overall 15 meter rope with eyes every 2 meters and a 8 meter last loop, and then make another 8 meter with loops down every 2 meters with a 4 meter last loop.

Looks good that woulda been ok using either strop or rope in that situation as it didn't need much enthusiasm to get it out. Vid is v cool tho.

Love Rattys ejecter style no plate.
