towing on to a motorway is illegal you can however recover from the motorway with a rope but only too a safe location nearesr exit i never said towing with a rope was illegal i said what you done was 70 exceeds the limit for any vehicle towing a trailer never mind with a rope

Quite right no you didn't.

In my first post my statment "Towing rules mentioned are for commercial operators not private individuals helping a mate out".

Your reply in your post was "no towing laws are for everyone"

Rules or Law I take as the same thing in this context.

Also I still don't have much regard for others on the motorways and as for " incredibly stupid" i'm nothing like the mad bastards one meets on the roads in France. :)

I towed in a small flatbed recovery truck with a car on it today.:D:D:D

I regularly tow on a spec, on a straight bar and accasionally on my A frame. They all have their advantages and disadvantages. In snow or on slippery surfaces such as mud or ice I'll always tow on a strop or rope and never on a rigid bar.

you can't tow with an A frame legally, well you can as long as its to the next safe place after you have broken down.

An A frame attached to another vehicle comes under trailer law, so it will need to be braked if the weight exceeds 750kg...disco is a bit heavier than that!

So your options are either: don't worry about it and do it anyway, get a mate and a tow bar/rope to help you. Or invest in a car trailer like the ifor ct177 (needs to be 3.5 ton gross weight to take a disco)

You don't see broken down cars or vans being towed with rope these days in fact you don't see them being towed at all, it seems that it's on the phone and let the AA RAC etc sort it out. A sign of the times??. :D
