Did you find that connector above/behind the rear crossmember? Mine has that one and I have never known it's use.
Wire the trailor line to the main loom in the rear of the tub UK drivers side. Just remove the cover plate.
Do not use "scotch clip connectors" they are nothing but trouble.

1.and 2. Picture is the original connactor which is behind the ceossmember .... it has 5 wires....3. Picture are the wires from the connector which will be near the towing bar but there are 7 wires

Go in behind said panel, here connections can be made in a dry area.
Match the colours.
1 yellow = left flasher
2 blue fog = lamp
3 white = earth
4 green = right flasher
5 brown = right sidelamp
6 red brake = lamps.
7 black left = sidelamp

The five wire system was used on older trailors but does not suit modern ones with split sidelamps and fog lamp.

This is not the main connection which is at the end of the car and connect with the trailer socket.....this is behind the crossmember

Not sure what that small plug is on the car but it’s not the towing wiring. On earlier models the towing electrics plug into all the separate connection blocks behind the right hand rear lights.

Later on they moved to a single plug but if you can’t find one yours must be too early.

On an '89 they will be individual junction blocks behind the right rear lights with bullet connectors. Simply join the trailer cable to these wires:
1 Yellow>green/red- left indicator
2 Blue> red/yellow- fog lamp
3 White> black - ground
4 Green> green/white- right indicator
5 Brown> red/white or red/orange- right tail light
6 Red> green/purple- brake lights
7 Black> red/black- left tail light

The reverse light is on pin 8 of a 13-pin plug, or pin 1 of the grey 7-pin plug, and will be green/brown.

You will also find a purple wire which can be used to charge a trailer battery/power a caravan fridge when connected to the relevant pins via a voltage-sensing relay.
