Least you have that big hole in the back of the td5 crossmember to mount the thing on.

Anyway, mine has been rebuilt onto a Marsland galvanised chassis, the rear crossmember is as a TD5 infact as far as I am aware they buy the chassis's in from GKN who make them for landrover, Marslands then put engine mounting etc on to suit whatever engine variant is required, on that basis I assume everything for chassis mounting needs to be bought as TD5, certainly that was the case when I bought some rear bumperettes.

Well Mark, according to Marsland today, they only put the TD5 crossmember on a 300Tdi chassis (why that would be the case I don't know) rather than you suggest take a whole TD5 chassis and alter the engine mounts to suit. Seems odd to me, why change the crossmember to a TD5 one if the rest of the chassis is that of a TDi? Anyway, mine appears to have a TDi crossmember and rear legs so a Td5 tow bracket should fit and so it should be for you. However if you have the TD5 crossmember and 300 Tdi rear legs then it appears you need the adapter plate from Marsland and the 300 Tdi tow bracket should fit. In this second scenario a TD5 bracket would fit the crossmember but bracket legs would not. Clear? ;-) Maybe one of the more knowledgeable on here can give a definitive answer better than I can.

Beginning to wish I hadn't sold my old Dixon bate now at least I would have something to offer up as a pattern.
Wonder if it's possible to introduce any other variations
Regards
Mark

Whoops, correction to previous post. Should read - 'Anyway, mine appears to have a TD5 [original said Tdi] crossmember and rear legs so a Td5 tow bracket should fit and so it should be for you

Pictured is the bracket on my TD5 90 that I mentioned is not on your drawings.

One bracket either side that bolts through the chassis rails and also ties into the fuel tank carrier. The drop plate steady bars bolt to them not direct to the chassis.

I see now, I think. Many thanks for your time in taking that snap. As you and Pressbrake have said, I don't have the TD5 fuel tank and therefore don't have the cradle and brackets. Now I have to figure out if the TD5 110 version the brackets of which appear to bolt directly to the chassis will fit. Is the TD5 110 fuel tank in a different location from the 90? What I have gleaned so far is that I have a TD5 90 chassis (modified to accept a 300Tdi engine) but with the fuel tank in the Tdi position. So what I need is a TD5 tow hitch but with the two bottom brackets able to mount directly to the chassis (hopefully where the JATE rings are currently situated). It may be that this is the configuration on a TD5 110 - I just need confirmation.

Thanks to those who have helped lift the mist.

I'm pretty sure the 110 and 90 use the same rear mounted tank but never having owned or worked on a TD5 110 I cant say for sure. Pressbrake or JamesMartin may be able to advise.

my 300 tdi doesn't, or if it did, its been removed, spent alot of time round the rear wiring today, not found a lighting plug, my towbar is spliced into the standard wiring "old stylee"

N is just lights, S is caravan aux stuff, Euro is the new 12 pin, some brands will accept the N plug in the centre of the 12 pin, useful if you tow caravans and trailers.

I read all your past woes trying to get a towbar to fit, I have the same issue, 1995 90 tdi, Marsland galv chassis, TD5 x-member.

Did you get it sorted? what was the solution? Did I miss a thread somewhere? I found 3 of your old threads on this problem but no solution (was this designed as a test for noobs  )

Been looking at removable towbars, thought I'd sorted what I wanted with that southdown tank gaurd towbar combo (southdowns site has recently been hacked too which was not very helpful ), then when I looked under the beast, found I didn't have the rear tank, mines under the RHS

help!

You can see where the fuel tank brackets were cut off and part is still on the sides of the chassis!!
Nasty marsland telling lies !!

I reckon to solve the marsland/hashed gkn td5 chassis you need a td5 main towing bracket and the support arms from a early (mid 80s) 90 cos I think the jate ring holes are in the same place
