Hello,
bought a used tow bar for Disco....and came without bolts. Its assembled.
I think from reading the forum I need 4 bolts and crawling under Disco.I need ...

Rear member 2x M14X85mm
and 2xM16x125mm for chassis

Does anyone happen to know the Land Rover part number for a mounting kit please? tow ,bar is part number STC 50289.
Thank you......

I'm afraid the mounting kit isn't available as a separate part number - only wirh the tow bar.
You'll have to find the bolt specs & buy individually (NB all 10. 9 grade minimum)

Can you tell me please its 4 bolts i need ? and need to look behind right hand side rear light too wire up?

I will need to paint and clean it up a bit first.
thank you

When we fitted our tow bar there were two ...

If I remember rightly they go at the ends of the long 'arms' as a crush preventer ...

It may be that yours is a later Disco with built it tube type bushes and captives ...

It was along time ago ...on a 200TDi ...

Just took mine off a TD5 and for mounting there were just the four bolts and two nuts, apart from that there were others which facilitate getting the plug on and off. Didn't see any bushes at all.

Hello all,
Made some progress, have taken the tow bar apart as its very rusty and I could never lift that thing on my own, so plan to reassemble it with new bolts, nuts and washers. It was a fight to get it apart.

I need to run a tap up in the rear crossmembers to clean it out, been working on it with WD40 and a brush but its still a bit cruddy...........thing is i need to know the pitch of tap needed...standard seem to be 1.5.....does anyone know please if that is the correct one as i see you can get different pitches.?

I have been looking at various web sites they just say M14x85mm no mention of pitch.?

Thank you...

If I remember I'll measure the thread on my bolts which are out at the moment and let you know. If my thread gauge goes up that far! If not i'll do it by threads per cm, ot TPI if that makes any sense, OK?
Just need to gat lunch outa da way!
If i forget and you still need to know get back here and I'll pick it up from the alert!

Right done it now and taken lots of pics for you.
It is a 14mm bolt and the thread is likely to be 2.00
I say likely cos I used my thread gauge which only goes up to 1.75 and neither 1.5 nor 1.75 fitted. So it is ISO metric coarse, which would make sense. (1.5 and 1.75 are both the only isometric fine sizes for 14 mm bolt nominal diameter.)
I took one pic which shows 16 threads over 31 odd mm so that is near as dammit 2.00. I also took pics of neither 1.5 nor 1.75 fitting.
Do you need to know length of bolt, length of shank etc? As I took pics of all that too. I have also taken pics of my bolt thread tables if that if of interest.
Shorter bolts are 80 mm long with 45 mm shanks, i.e. 35 mm threaded, and the longer bolts are 120 mm long with 80 mm shanks. Washers needed are a flat washer and a lockwasher of some type for each of the shorter bolts, lockwasher goes closer to the head of the bolt. For the longer bolts, two flat washers and a lock washer, plus a nut. the lock washer going closest to the nut.
I also took pics of my tow bar off the vehicle. I obviously do not know if that helps as yours might be different. But I can put 'em up if you like.
Best of luck
Stan

Thank you Stanleysteamer...thats brilliant,I will order some with a pitch of 2.00,I did order some 1.5s,t hey will go in the bits box.

From reading on here I was going to use 85mm bolts on rear cross member(M14) and 125mm on the chassis at the back on the long arms.(M16)

I appreciate all the effort you put in for me...thanks a lot.

No problem at all, they are off and lying around anyway.
The longer ones are deffo 14 mm cos the nuts off them will go onto the short ones. So I don't know who is saying they are M16.
You said "at the back" on the long arms. Think you were looking at it from the rear! The long arms obviously go forward, either side of the fuel tank which is what makes fitting them just a bit tight.
As I said I can put up picks of my tow bar, if it helps.
Don't hesitate to ask!:)

Thank you for that,I have the tow bar in bits as it was very rusty,I am rubbing it down and using a wire brush. It was fixed with plain washers and nylon nuts.

Most if not all will need to be replaced as they are in a very bad way.

I have a copy of the instructions, so will work from that,I appreciate offer to do a pic of the assembled tow barbet should be okay.

I will assemble it on the Disco as thats all i can manage, even a bucket of bolts and nuts is heavy.

I will put up a picture when its done, some time to go yet.
