Hello! I have purchased a second hand tow bar, my vehicle has never had one fitted.

Just wondered if anyone has any instructions on how to fit one? Is it as simple as just 4 bolts...

it is as easy as that, everything is pre drilled. hope you had all the bolts and electrics. the tow bar electric connector is behind the o/s/r lamp, just plug in and go.
should only take an hour tops.

Great, thank you! Yes everything came so will tackle it on Saturday. Never knew the electrics was as simple as that.

As others have said it is, in theory, very simple

HOWEVER, do be prepared for complications! Mine had evidently been involved in a minor rear end shunt at some point which had twisted teh rear cross member ever so slightly.... meant that the bolts were about 1mm out. Might not seem a lot but thats far more than the tolerance that is built in. Ended up having to do a bit of work with a file to elongate one of the holes in the arm that reaches forward to the underside of the chassis.

The other challenge was that the captive nuts in the rear cross member had evidently gathered some surface rust... after a lot of hard work they eventually went in.

The second hand tow bar i bought had been painted after assembly... so it arrived as one huge chunk (the guys in the post office thought i'd ordered a cast iron stag's head!) and was a pain to get in place

Well I got it fitted today, luckily it was all very easy and went without any issues at all. Luckily my Discovery is in very good order underneath and was just a case of cleaning the holes the bolts went through to ensure they went in okay. To be fair, it was easier than I though, which makes a change for me when it comes to anything Land Rover related!!! Time to do some towing now. Thanks for your help once again!

Dont forget to recheck the torque on the bolts after you've used it :)
