OK, now this one has me stumped at the moment....

On occasion, and with no rhyme nor reason, the car will just totally shutdown - like completely....no interior lights, no response from any electrical service at all, it is as if the battery is disconnected....

It can even happen when driving! Thats fun..!!!

But, disconnect the battery and reconnect, and it is as if nothing had ever happened.

All electrical connections are secure as are all the earth straps, battery is strong, recent and of the correct supersize.

I am a bit baffled, there is no rhythm or pattern to when it happens...it just does it when it feels like it...sometimes it can go a week with no issue, then all of a sudden it can be two or three times in a day!

Anyone had experience of similar? I will be going through all the electrical connections with a tooth comb over the coming days, as I will be needing to rely on the old girl as a daily driver once again next week...

I had this on my P38, cracked solder joint underneath the fusebox board, i'd be driving quite happily and it was like someone stole the battery. If I turned the headlights on, only one side of the car lit up.

could you have a similar issue? maybe dis/connecting the battery is moving/restoring a connection?

Good call, maybe even a dodgy connector on an earth strap.try a jump lead from the battery to the engine next time it happens. You will sort it Ant.;)

Saint do you have the “blowy up thing” on your battery?

As I see it that’s some thing that can cut all electrickery, as you say you disconnect and reconnect you are jiggling it.

Can’t think of anything else and would think it would have to be multiple faults to lose power to everything.

Good luck with your search.

I'd agree with @kermit_rr

Just to add there is a little known problem check to see if you have a burnt post connection in the engine compartment fuse box. The positive post can come loose from the circuit board.

with very annoying results.

Iv'e known of a dry soldered joint on an earth strap that caused problems, it looked fine.I was going to mention the blown up thing but i couldn't remember the technical terminology. :D:D Pyrotechnic link??;)

What were JLR thinking of ,should have been blowy up thing ' Enery you did make me laugh. :D:D

Hi ant

I agree its proberly the positive post in the fuse box it's a simple fix I did mine a while back and posted the photos up.
Split the fuse box DO NOT attempt to unsolder the pins securing the x2 circuit boards cut the pins split the boards resolder as required then solder each pin together job done

I was working on that TD6 near me for a while which had the random cut out followed by non starting and zero power at times and that was the ignition switch. If you can find the thread I put the wiring diagram and what fuses to test from the multiple feeds from the switch.
You have the Frankenstein size fuses behind the battery I think which are the main fusible links and the other thing we saw once was a hidden immobiliser in the main ECU box that kept freaking out that the owner didn’t know was there.
Good luck

Many thanks for the replies....I have monitored it for the last few days and so far no random shutdowns.....I have checked all the earth straps, headers and cables.

The BCU connections are clean and secure, and with it not being a P38 it doesn't suffer from the usual fusebox delamination issues!!

This weekend I will be taking the glovebox out and checking the fusebox connections in there....and the pyro-charge on the positive lead is secure and not loose...

All the positive cable connections are secure to thhe alternator and starter, and also the jump location and the one bolted to the back of the intake manifold are all good.

The rear fuse box connections are all good too.....so I wait with baited breath on if it happens again and see what happens once Iook at the fusebox at the weekend.

Hi Sainty , just a thought on reading your thread , i hope you appreciate i know not much about the L322, but on a couple of occasions over last few years helping with re-sync & keycode lockouts that this happened too them but they were p38s , so i dont know if the l322 have similar feature " i.e. E.C.U. IN BOX IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT". SO on investigations at the time that the Soldered inline fuse to ecu was "in the box under the ecu " under the bonnett . and all examination revealed that this was responsible for complete cut off !!!! so quick clean and re soldere was the answer as this has never happened again . i hope this helps ,only trying to point to the culprit ,best of luck ,kind regards MOZZ/

My dad had similar issue on his BMW 5 series many years ago. Fusible link buried in the engine bay loom with a dry joint on it. BMW had it in many times and never found it.
Dad and I stripped back the loom on the off-chance of finding damaged cables and found the link.
Re-soldered it and it was fine

Hi all, I am having the same problem...V8 petrol RRsport. The first sign of a problem is that oncoming traffic flashes me cos my hazards have come on (but with no sound) and the central locking clicks on then off (or the other way round)...the touch screen and radio will then switch off and the dash says the 'system is shutting down'. The engine will keep running but if switched off it will not restart. I have left it for around an hour when it will suddenly come back to life!! It has been suggested by a Landrover garage that a whole new instrument panel would be needed as they cannot tamper with the soldering / circuit boards etc...
I would be greatful for any advice if anyone has solved the same issue.
Cheers

Hi Saint,
did you ever resolve this issue? I have the exact same problem, seems to be triggered by below freezing temperatures and maybe humidity?

No, never did - it stopped doing it just as randomly a it started doing it!

All the above suggestions are good info to start on....check all earths, check all positives, check the fusible links, check connections to all three fuse boxes....check the pyro charge on the positive lead etc....all are prone to give issues.
