Hi all, I bought this on a wim. It's for my 14 year old to drive around in our field and for me to use to fetch hay/straw etc.

What can I expect in terms of problems? And has this series iii featured in this forum before?

Got to admit that apart from driving them for a few years military service in the mid 80's... I know nowt about them. Just hoping I got lucky and havent bought a dog. I pick it up on Saturday.. First real question.. Is the back box an expensive job?

Thanks for reading.

Here she is...

Thanks for the reply, I hope you are right. What fuel type should I use? Its a petrol. Will it need the lead replacement stuff? Told you I was clueless! :)

You "should" use lead replacement though I was told by my mechanic mate not to bother...if you don't and do a lot of miles you'll need to get the cylinder head and valves reseated...

However if you did that you'd be able to use unleaded as the new seats would be good for unleaded. The lead replacement stuff is quite dear! after a few thousand miles of driving you'd probably have saved enough by not using it to afford a recon'ed head!

ok thanks, seems to make sense. Ive never bought a car on a whim before, always wanted a landrover though, even if this one is for my lad! If its good enough I'll put it on the road.
I really didnt think Id win the auction as they seem to go for quite a lot more. Hopefully its me that got lucky and not the seller!

Thats far too nice for a 14 year old kid to rag around a field:mad:get him a cheap fourtrack or summat.

:5biagree: Far too good to wreck as a hack, barn stored for 12 years and looks pretty straight and solid so why not stick an MOT on it, make some money, buy your kid a Spewzuki SJ and have a holiday on the rest....good genuine Series are making strong money atm ;)

I have to say that unless that thing is nicked, a ringer or completely and utterly knackered you've got a bargain...

Worth pulling what area you are. Sure if you are local to a few they would give it a good look over and advise on what might "actually " need doing to make it road worthy.

Look after it and your 14 year old will be able to have as his first car and cheap insurance.

Thanks for all the replies. The RAC Checks came back clean, just need to check the VIN is good..
The car will be kept near to Tenbury Wells, if there are any spurts near by that would be interested in comming over and having a look then please do let me know.. I can offer a fairly decent sized cut of rare breed pork for your efforts :)

I live in Malvern which isn't too far away from you.........scrappyloz too and benny77 I think

Rare breed pork mmmmmmmmm sausages.

You have an absolute bargain there. Just for your info', the registration number originated in the Scottish Borders, my neck of the woods, ("sh" part is Borders). Look on Ebay for a back box.

And what you have is a Series 3 Land Rover, not a Defender as advertised. If it had an mot it could be worth up to £3k.

'hoping I got lucky and havent bought a dog'

No, can confirm, my dog has four legs not wheels !

Happy LR ownership :)
