Hi all,

When I change the head gasket on my dodgy old disco, do I need to use a torque angle gauge? and if so what the hell would I use it for?!

Thanks

David

mark bolt flats and do it that way or use gauge - angular is for stretch head bolts

I second (or third) that on the flats thing - doing head gaskets has become so much easier since this was pointed out to me.....Im only so bloody annoyed with myself for not realising it years ago . Pick a corner of the hex bolt head , mark it with a pen/scriber whathaveyou and a corresponding mark on the head . Turn the bolt until the next corner lines up with the spot on the head....and you have just tightened 60* . Simple , each flat of the bolt head making 60* of the 360* rotation . For the 20* turn you mark a third of the width of the flat and tighten to the spot on the head . You can do the third by eye pretty easy , or make a card template or even use calipers . Whatever , it makes angle tightening of stretch bolts a breeze .....after all the bloody years I have struggled with sodding gauges and ending up as good as guessing anyway . Bugger !

As they all said use the hex bolts or if your good you can do it by eye, you have to have a good eye for angles tho...

Thanks for the replies, just need to get myself a dial test indicator, wait till it stops raining and I'm good to go!
