Evening guys,
I noticed earlier that my engine oil wasn't even registering on the dip stick so I paniced and filled her up, checked, then filled again and obviously was heavy handed the second time. She is about 20mm over the H mark on the dipstick, ironically over the word DANGER. Should I drain her? I need to drive to the airport in the morning and aside from that want to keep my engine in good nick!!

Cheers

YES!
It says DANGER for a good reason.
Too much oil is worse than too little.
Your engine could start running on its sump oil and self destruct.

ok cool, just going to drain it, only problem is I don't have a socket that fits the drain, I have an adjustable but that obviously means I can't use the torque wrench. Granted this isn't gonna need much draining (me thinks) is there anywhere else I can get a small amount of oil out, as aside from the torque wrench issue, I'm concerned I don't have a replacement plug/washer and it'll **** it out in no time.

Thanks Treworgey

see if you can get the oil filter off without crushing it, then empty that and put it back on.
alternatively, suck some out of the dipstick tube, if you've got some kind of suction device.

Christ sake, what a fun evening this has been!!! Tried using the petrol pump for my model helis, not strong enough, so tried to syphon it and got **** loads of oil in my mouth, so decided to take oil filter off and now its perfect :D

Thanks so much Trew, no matter how much hassle this has been I'm glad I did it as opposed to running the engine on ****e loads of oil!!

yummie, bet that tastes nice this morning

Believe me, getting oil in my mouth was not my first plan, but anything I tried to pump it with wouldn't budge it, oh well. Am sorting out a correct socket for the sump plug today and I'll get the oil changed asap!

The right sized ring spanner will be useful even if you only do your own oil changes.

ah but if it falls in you might have a plug n a socket to fish out!Swings roundabouts.

Surely it would simply be better to have a socket so that when you put it back in I can torque it correctly. Anyone know off the top of their heads what size the socket needs to be? I read somewhere it was "near" 28 or 29mm, so its obviously an imperial measurement.

For a 200TDi I think there could be 2 sizes... and no record of what was fitted to which so you'll need to look!

torque settings I've found for a 200tdi and 300tdi were 35nm I think, will have to check. And as for the plug size, I'll get the vernier out tonight and see what it is!!
