Hi,

I got a Warn winch and since the front shocks were getting too low, I changed springs (BA 2102 on the rear and similar on the front).

Now I have a problem, the car is way too hard and every little bump is a huge problem for my back. It's like there's no suspension.

Now what can I do to make it softer. New shocks?

are you running your truck empty? If so that could be it. Have you fitted LR standard fitment springs? or after market HD springs. I would say it is more likely to be the spring that the damper. my truck was a 110 used for 6 years my anglian water. I ran mine empty and it was like you say a real shock everytime you went over a bump. I've now got terrafirma light duty all round and its much better.

You could remove the damper (one end) and make sure that it moves (it should be reasonably difficult to shift.
 
i would change the shocks, get some nice new aftermarket ones. found my girlfriends landy was very uncomfortable on the road, changed all the shocks to terrefirma standard height with lr standard springs and it made a hell of a difference.

I actually gor the Bearmach Blue Springs BA2102 and BA2104.

And for what I can tell new shocks will do the trick.

I got a 2" lift with the new springs. Can anyone tell me which shocks I should get (don't want to spend too much money).

I was actually thinking about getting terrafirma shocks, but have no idea which ones...

Looking at the spring rates on the Web for those springs I would actually go for BA2103 on the rear. They are 240lb/in, where as the BA2102 are 295lb/in which IME is way to hard for a 90.

Changing shocks won't help at all. They are there to dampen the spring movement (or occillation). The choice of shock depends on what you want from the end result. If road manner matter to you then spend the cash and get Old Man Emu. I've had the same ones on my Discovery for over 6 years and never regretted it.

I ride mostly on tarmac and on the weekeng go off-road.

If you want good flex then I would say ProComp or Rough Country. Money no object all rounder, Old Man Emu. Terrafirma are an OME copy. You pays ya money........

got pro comp es9000 + 2" with 35" bfg muddies on my truck, they are a nice ride, but i'm told they dont last too well when it comes to the eyes on the rear. + the rod is already rusting! only a year or so old.

I think I made up my mind and I'm gonna go with the OME.

One last thing, will I be able to keep these springs or should I get new ones? I case I should get new ones which would be a good choice.

You could just go and get 220lb/ft Old Man Emu springs as well as the shocks.

ive been through 3 dampers in under a year. 2 got bent and one sheered off at the bottom! now running terrafirma
 
Thanks a lot everyone.

I'm installing OME shocks next tuesday. I'll see how they go and then decide regarding changing springs or not!

One thing that came to my mind, why are higher rate springs installed on the rear since there's a lot more load, with the engine and winch, on the front (295 vs 220)?

Just curious!

I would only recommend a stiffer spring on the rear of a RR or Disco as they do have more weight in the back.

For a winch equipped D90 I would recommend about 220lb/ft springs all round.....

.....I'm pretty sure that I say that on the last page :)

I didn't mean you, I ment that in most places they recommend 220 front and 290 rear as a good set-up fo the d90! And it's not!

Once again thanks a lot for your help.

Shock are being mounted today! :)
 
uau, what a difference!! Now it's like driving a range rover...

ome shocks really made the difference! even with 290 springs!

If you can't install the shocks yourself (like me), try to find a local retailer. It may be a bit more expensive but saves time.

I wouldn't just cast your ideas like that as people's needs vary hugely. Your only running a 90 with winch so your additional load is bare minimal.

Im running TF 230 fronts with 340 rears along with FT dampers and the ride is comfortable. I do however carry a huge load (full external cage, ARB bumper, RTT, TD5 fuel tank to name a few additions).
