I've got a black 02 plate (pre facelift) TD5 ES premium with all the toys, 83k miles with FSH. The wife has had the car for about 18months now and all i've had to do is the rear airbags, a relay and a couple of trackrods ends. The MPG is killing the missus's finances so we were considering moving on, even though we both love the car (apart from MPG). Seeing nothing has really gone wrong i feel very lucky but now have the horrible feeling it could turn round and bite us and cost me a small fortune (you can only be lucky for so long). One day we decide we'll keep it, the next we think we should change (we have looked at a new Quashqui +2 as it gives the room and mpg we want, but its not a disco). I'm struggling to come up with a value for the car as the possible resale value will be a big decider.

Am i riding my luck holding onto a 9 year old 80k+ disco, or have a ifell on a lucky one? whats its worth as is??
 
pays ya money and takes your chance- so you buying a push bike to replace it?
 
I would never swap a disco for a Quashqui never...no offence they look like a 4x4 but with 2 wheel drive. & if it snows heavy you look like a dingbat. And some smug ****er in a disco will drive past you when your stuck, & you'l be thinking oh nooooo what have I done.
 
If you MUST have that size Nissan, go for the Xtrail. I had one - they are great cars, arguably best of the `soft roaders', fit some ATs and it will do as a good 2 season Green laner as well as a family car for every day use. Very reliable and 42mpg on the 2.2 diesel.
 
Dont quite get the logic of seling a liked vehicle all be it a bit heavy on the juice but buying a jap replacement will presumably cost a chunk in capital outlay plus if it does go wrong and plenty do i assure you will cost a lump to repair, as if you keep going with the disco no capital outlay so you must be able to put a bit more in the tank and still be in pocket any way thats how i see it.

Reasn we bought disco was the 7 seats, not the 4x4 (although was extremely handy) as I will never own an MPV, hence the qashqui consideration now. I knew it was a bad idea asking here ;)
 
My friend has got a Qashqui and when it snowed he couldnt get it going he basically said it was a toy and no where near a 4x4.

I have asked the same question about my Disco, should I get something smaller but lets be honest, there isnt anything you can't get into the back of the Disco, no matter what the weather either the hottest day of the year of the worst snow for the last 20 years its the most comfortable drive you will ever have and as long as you give it plenty of tlc, it will not let you down.

As for 80,000 miles on the clock, I have read threads saying that the engines will do 200,000 miles plus again if you give them plenty of tlc.

Neadless to say I have decided to keep my Landy, it would break my heart to sell it.

I dont think you will have anyone on this site say anything else.

Mine suddenly got expensive when it got to ten years old. Mileage isn't particularly important, but there are a lot of things that can start to go wrong on a car of that age. Pipes start to go rusty, electrics get a bit tired. I just felt I couldn't rely on it 100% any more, so got an 07 Freelander instead. So far I love it, but no it doesn't have seven seats!
 
If selling privately, look for 6,500 minimum if desperate to get rid of. Price it at 7,500. Good pre-facelift models are hard to find in some areas. They tend to be on dealer forecourts so horribly overpriced.
 
Decided to keep it :D Then the fuel line split and pumped diesel all over the place. At least it was a free and fairly quick fix ;)
 
i did this once, had a 3 door 200 sold it for fiesta si. Felt lost so sold it after 3 months and bought a 5 door 200. you'll be glad you kept it, glad i saw the light

Ive had all sorts of MPV having 4 kids has its toll, (807, Multipla, Serena, Espace, Galaxy the list goes on) and too be honest my 17 year old Disco is still going strong, paid £600 for it only has a few niggly things that i have to fix but fairly cheap to replace and i'm glad i did it. As long as you look after the body work and fix the niggly thing before they become major Disco's will last you a life time and even the majorish fixes I can do myself with the help of this forum, haynes manual and trial and error. As i say to my bewildered boyfriend, 'I'll take it apart, try to remember how it goes, if i cant do it hit it with an hammer (not got to this stage yet lol). Personally I wouldn't go back now though, even though I have been considering looking at the life size Meccano otherwise know as a Defender 110.

They come in 4wd versions as well as 2 and with sensible tyres on they do fine on the snow/mud, we had one when the OH's X trial was in the garage.
 
Oh you can't convince me.....ok they do a four wheel drive, but it does look gay, you can't argue with that. I'd rather a freelander 1 than one of those, and that's saying something. My neighbour has got one, it's awefull. And that's coming from him.

I have had mine almost a year now and the only majorish problem was head gasket. 221657 on the clock so far. looking to double that hopefully :)

Haha mines at 210000 and still going strong. I've been told 300000 miles is the usual engine life expectancy and thats greenlaning it lmao. Nah the body usually packs in way before the engine does on most of them.
