Hi

The 200tdi in my 110 is looking like the piston rings are going to need to be replaced as it's a bit smokey when warm. I've taken the head off to check if the head gasket was still intact but I've discovered a small but noticeable ridge in the cylinder bores so I'm guessing bore wear/piston rings are the problem.
As the pistons will be coming out I may as well get the block bored out to get rid of the ridge. Then I'm thinking I may as well replace the Conrod bearings and big end bearing while I'm at it.
When I bought the truck the engine was apparently on around 130,000 miles so the engine should have plenty of life left in it, so how in-depth is it worth going whilst the engine is apart. Will it be worth replacing the cam bearing as well and what about things like valve guides?
This will be my first time rebuilding an engine so any tips will be appreciated. I want to get some experience doing this kind of thing so I'm definitely looking to have a go at it myself.

Thanks

Did you do a compression test before you took it to bits?
Personally I would grind the valves in check for wear in guides whilst doing that and fit new oil seals put it back together if still smoking do a compression test.
What colour was the smoke and when was it apparent as on start up injector pump supplies excess fuel to start engine.
Does it use much oil?

No unfortunately I didn't.
Okay that's some good advice thanks, I was told to try replacing the head gasket to see if that helped with the smoke but when I saw the wear in the bores I just assumed that was what's been causing the problem. It was chuffing blue smoke when the engine was warm, it was absolutely fine until it was up to temperature. There was also a lot of oil in the intake as I was taking it to bits so it must have been using a fair amount of oil. I haven't really driven it properly as when I bought it it needed some electrical work.

Oil in the intake could be from the turbo cartridge some is acceptable but not loads check the centre spindle of the turbo some movement is normal but should not be excessive. Search google for videos on turbo.

I'm pretty certain it's not the turbo, there was a pool of oil in the air filter housing so I think it's coming from the oil separator hose.
