That is the Question...

Going over my new (old) TD5, and after Ive done all the oil and filters, I'm going to tackle the bushes to see if I can stop some of the knocking noises...

But should I fit genuine LR bushes, or 'poly' bushes, or something else entirely?

I dont know what the difference is to be honest - so can someone elighten me about the different types of bush around (fnarrr).

Cheers,
Jim

Two years ago I sent my nissan terrano (sad I know) in for new bushes. They fitted 8 poly bushes and said they would last forever.
MOT due the following year, failed on rear axle bushes. They did replace them free of charge, as they were the garage that fitted them. So I have no faith in them, but I would like to know what the general feeling is about them.
By the way I'm a proud owner of a Land Rover Discovery Td5 now. ( My Wife Calls it my Tonka Toy)
Hope this helps Jim.

Thanks for the replies...
Buster - I did do a search, but didnt really find a definitive answer - many threads seem to end in an argument, often not related to bushes too :)

Pimackenzie - Thanks for the info too - i'm dubious about fitting polys after hearing similar stories from different places. All the poly-proponents say they will outlast the original rubber, but many say its not so.

A set of Polybush is £213 (or so they say) Polybush Discovery Series 2 Kit
A set of FloFlex/Deflex is about £65 from fleabay

Anyone priced up the same genuine LR bushes I wonder?

personally I'm a great believer in genuine parts. My Disco is a 2001, and the bushes seem to be in the same condition as they were from the factory. Thats 7 years old come Nov 2008

Right well In the absence of a definitive answer about the durability of poly bushes, regardless of make, I think I'll just replace the knackered ones with genuine LR ones.

I reckon it'll be cheaper that way, instead of doing the whole lot with a Poly Kit.

Unless someone comes back and tells me that they've had a set of XYZs Polys fitted for 6 years without any problems...?

fix the front nrside roll bar bush first if it got ACE. cost about a fiver and fixed the knocks on mine...
