If I didn't have my wife and boy I'd seriously consider leaving, Australia seems like a nice place and I would like the wilderness etc, but I can't see why people put it on their bucket list etc

the quality of life in oz is high, but the cost of living is going up and up now. It would have to be a country which speaks some english as learning a completely new language would be a bit of a challenge-especially working! Wouldn't rule out canada either- seems like an amazing place to live

I am in the same boat, and being in agriculture can nearly pick where to go. But the wife won't travel for anything other than holiday.

Just remember that your only real regrets in life are the things that you had the chance to do but never did, I am only 28 and even now that is so true. But it's never to late to change your life.

I agree whole heartedly, I am also only 27 so have plenty of time ( I hope ) , my wife has family in the USA, but USA is in a worse state than the Uk.

Yer I am 23, so got even fewer commitments! I wouldn't live in the US, went there is November for 2 weeks touring in an RV, nice and all, but an odd place- and their economy is screwed!

I live in Australia and moved here bot 30 yrs ago.
Just recently we had all the excitement you would want.
A cyclone crossed the coast north of here and turned into a slow moving rain depresion and dumped about 1 1/2 ft of rain in 2 days but when it reached us here at a place called Burnett Heads it also produced water spouts which when hit the land turned into mini tornados. 1 of these tornados crossed the coast 100yrd from our house but the cetere was only 20 yrds across. It took the roof off of 2 houses and then followed our street up taking fences and more roofs also i ripped out our Macadamia nut tree and carried on for a further 1 km and ended up demolishing a small shop and service station at a caravan park. all in all there were 20 roofs damaged and abou5 houses demolished. There were 2 tornados crossed the coast here and another 3 crossed within 10 KM of here leaving a trail of millions of dollars worth of damage and we were without electric for 4 days.
The worse was still to come because of the amount of water that was dropped 3 days later a flood came down the Burnett river and Bundaberg which is 20 km upsteram from us was flooded and North Bundaberg had to be evacuated.
When resident were allowed back into inspect damage 27 houses were condemed. Some of the houses were floated off ther stumps and one ended up directing traffic from the center of a roundabout
There is still the clean up going on here but life is almost back to normal for most of the town although there are still a lot of people living in tent at evacuation ceters.
We were some of the lucky ones as we had no damage and no floods but a lot of people lost everything.
Even after all that I would not live anywhere else but I do spend a lot of time travelling in other contries.
Another alternative for you to live is South Africa .I know some people live there and the lifestyle id great.

Fook that happens here every year, why you crying :lol:

I'm sure that in the last 3 pages there have been those with great advice and some with not so. So I can only add my tuppence worth which is : You might go and regret it , you might not go and regret it BUT personally if I get to 90, I would rather sit back, laugh at myself and regret some of the things I did, rather than regret not doing them.

Dubs is good, after you adjust a bit. Been here 3 years and it is still growing on me.

Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia .......

Go
If you've got the chance now and you don't take it you'll regret it for the rest of your life.
You've got the choice of every country that was ever part of the empire / commonwealth, your English will be understood and appreciated.
If it's money you're after how about India, still a growing economy with the chance of making your fortune.
If it's a gamble how about China? In the coastal, manufacturing areas there are opportunities for English speakers who can get their heads round the society.
If it's quality of life how about New Zealand?

GO I took my wife and child to West Africa for 3 years, admittedly in the days before it became the unstable hell hole it is now. It was a truly great experience. My step daughter lives in Dubai, thinks it's great, just be careful with alcohol and any other substances, the penalties are pretty severe.
When younger I tried to go to OZ, they would not let me in as an electronics engineer even with sponsorship, same went when I was offered a job in Canada. Both countries are fantastic places to live if you enjoy the outdoor life. Even in winter with minus 40C there is lots to do in Canada out on skidoo's etc.
So I ended up stuck in the UK until my wife buggered off and I moved to France where life is also much better IMO than the UK and for a retired person the taxes are much lower.

If it was not so far from the kids, NZ would be my country of choice now.

Life is just a memory, so best to get some good ones in whilst you can. I would go.

Only advice is don't get into any trouble.

Not strictly Range Rover related I know... but....

I am considering moving to Dubai- mainly for the money, lack of rain, tax free earnings, better career opportunities etc. I am fully aware that there are some quite large drawbacks to living there, but cannot make my mind up!

Any thoughts on Dubai? Or ideas on where I can start a new, exciting life?!

Have a look at this........

BBC News - British men 'tortured by Dubai police'

Plus there is a missing Brit sailor missing from shore leave and presumed dead. Been missing for months

It might be tax free salary but Dubai is so expensive that it really won't make any difference.
Also it might look glittery from the outside but have you ever tried living in a strict muslim country?

Beef sausages are rank and rubber bacon is not nice.

The natives are so sex starved they will treat your wife with utter contempt and stare at her like she is a prize camel.
Down in the markets it's all cheap copies of watches and handbags.

Dubai is great for a weekend if you are already a millionaire, but having been there now i'd never stay for very long.

In fact I think i'll just stick to the airport.

Remember anything built on sand is never going to last long.

Have a few days there and see it for yourself, then go to Thailand or Australia.

Where ever is good, just get out there and try, i left the UK in 99 and have been living in various parts of Europe ever since, did Spain, Germany, Denmark and have now settled in Poland due to the wife being Polish, but we are the only member of Europe that hasnt had a recession yet so dont knock it ;) the economy is booming and there is some serious money to be made.

I am not suggesting you do Poland but what I am saying is the world is a small place and Europe is tiny so get out now and have a look about, you can always go back to Blighty if you dont like it and you are never more than 36 hours away no matter where you go in the world as long as there is an airport nearby:)

I liked Singapore when I was out there last year but not sure i would want to live there, China was bloody awful, the States is hugely overrated IMO and most of Europe will be on its arse for a while but what ever you do, DO IT get out now and try or you will regret it later in life.

He was apparently totally ****ed when he went missing, alcohol and living in Muslim countries is a recipe for disaster sadly:(

His 2 M8's but him in a taxi and set it back to there ship............. He could be getting a grooming
