We just bought our 2nd D3 but it came with only one key fob, with low battery. So we would like to replace the battery and have a spare one. We're looking on ebay, but I understand that if we want a blank key with electronics inside it is minimum £70. Then where could we have is cut and programmed cheaply? Same for battery change?
Thank for you help.
PS we are in NW London if you know local addresses.
Spare question, if we buy an "empty" spare, without the electronics, and have it cut, can it still be used to start the engine?

hi and welcome

the battery is an inductive one, so the battery will charge up as u use the key

u can unsolder the battery and replace it but isn't an easy job to do

£60-70 is about right for a new complete fob, needs to be 433mhz, dont buy any from china etc, often will get a dud or the wrong mhz, i learnt buying one from china

where abouts in london are u please

to get the key cut will cost around £10-15 quid

programming it , there's plenty of garages around that can sync it for u, or ur local land rover dealer

many of the d3-d4 owners buy a diagnostic reader which can also program keys and will pay for itself very quickly

personally like other have a gap iid , they are around £400 but worth every penny

hope that helps a little

Thanks for your answer, we are n the Maida Vale / Kilburn area, NW6

hi

for the life of me i can't remember what ur local land rover dealer would charge for a new key and sync

i had the same, with only having one fob and had to use the passenger side lock to secure the disco , until i got another key with a better battery

you can find something on the opposite side of London http://www.akskeys.com/range-rover-keys ... for the other question the answer is no, you can't start the engine with an empty fob unless the passive immobiliser is disabled(not a factory setting)
