Chaps,
Replacing Gearbox, IRD and Rear Diff oils soon. Any tips? I'm planning on getting a level and getting the front of the car on axle stands and using a trolley jack for the rear of the car, then once I'm satisfied it's level I'll drain them and top up level with the screw holes.

remove filler plugs before you take out drain plugs!
worth getting an oil hand suction pump to empty your diff as it ain't got a drain :)
 
Rear diff:bend the nozzle into the diff,bottle behind the rear subframe.Then rotate the bottle upwards between the subframe and exhaust box.
Transmission:not sure ,cant remember.I think it would be best to remove the n/s wheel.I just remember I attached a short length of narrow hose to the bottle,there must be an easier way to do it.
IRD:make sure you remove the filler nut before you drain,it can be a right bastard to get off without damaging .

Before you drain the IRD and tranny oil ,take it for a good spin to get it warmed up.

The only place I found that supplies the mtf94 (think thats the stuff) for the transmission,was local LR dealer.They also deal honda and the honda mtf was quite a bit cheaper.
 
So I checked the Haynes manual today and it doesn't describe draining and refilling the rear diff oil?

joe27979 mentioned I don't have a drain plug, is this correct?

Rear diff on the Freelander 1 doesn't have a drain. You'll have to suck the old oil out via the filler. the filler in mounted in a thin plate, so don't over tighten it afterwards.
 
Can it be sucked out using a suction pump tool, thingie? I know, stop with all technical lingo already!lol :mil80:
 
yes it does :(.

look at bulletin 2 (i think) - in the Q & A's section. and the "All yu need to know" fred.
 
I'm worried about f**king the rear diff. Does anyone have a picture showing which is the refill screw please?
 
As far as I'm aware it's this square plug??

Rachet like this to remove the nut thing. Make sure ya undoes it the correct way, anti cloclwise. Don't tighten it up too tight when putting back.
