Hi

New here but jumping straight in with this: Has anyone ever done a conversion from pick up to tipper? Just wondering how feasible this would be and if anyone's ever done it/seen it done before...?

Cheers

I have only seen them where the butt is replaced completely, the standard one wouldn't be rigid enough without having a frame to sit on, which i guess would raise it up too high, plus you would want a flat load area for a tipper

Thanks for the response Kev

I had a feeling it wouldn't be very straightforward as I haven't come across any ...

Yep a friend did, he basically removed everything landrover from the cab backwards and fabricated from scratch to make a ‘ute’ style bed

Seen loads done but none that used the original rear tub, they're first turned into a chassis cab and a tipper body built to fit, easiest thing to do is get hold of a scrapper Tranny tipper and you've got everything you need parts wise to build what you want.

This is a Discovery conversion I saw this year.

Had the cab been shorter it could have extended the tipper bed by another foot I think.

The Australians have a utility conversion they apply to anything with a separate chassis and they like to stretch them too.

Wow some serious conversions going on there! Mine's a HiCap 110 p/u and I was wondering of it would be possible to use the original tub and adapt the chassis to accommodate pump/ram etc but apparently it's not do-able

It is doable but as you can see in the pic above a tipper has its own "chassis" that bolts to the vehicle and a frame to support the bed and take the lift from the ram. You could build one or modify a transit one and sit your butt on top but its gonna sit a good 8" higher than it does now

Are either of those Disco conversions tipper backs then? or just static beds?

Cheers

Red truck cab with white ally body tips with hydraulic power supplied via an electric pump. Ute was added as an illustration of extending the wheelbase to achieve a potentially more desirable result.

Thinking maybe a tipping trailer would make a good 'donor'

Measure up an ifor Williams tipper trailer. See how the chassis is done.
But as stated this will make your motor higher.
This will also put a lot of weight over the back & limit the carrying capacity.

Why do you want a tipper rear?

I keep coming back to this and was trying to price up all the bits new Vs second hand and it works out to be a heck of a lot of wedge when you price up the hydraulics

Still think S/H tranny is easiest solution an rob all the gear and even the back body off it an modify to fit.
