Hi all,

having replaced the rotten rear bumper on my 1996 4.0, I've discovered rust in both rear corners underneath.
The driver's side has a hole and the other side's not looking that much healthier. Also the inverted 'cup' at the body mount point is quite badly corroded on one side.
Is it possible to repair/weld in this area? Or has the day come when I have to take it out into the woods early one morning with a gun in the crook of my arm and a tear in my eye?

Oh pull your self together man ;) has your p38 been parked to close to one of those there Discoverys! It's very rare that p38s rust....

Hi Nige - been meaning to text you Re the bumper (I wanted to have a look at the inboard mounting points on your bumper before I removed mine by drilling out the remaining bolt) but v busy ATM.

Not sure where you mean on the tinworm holes, but didn't it pass its MOT a few months ago? No advisories?

However, I don't think you need to consider automotive homicide/euthanasia just yet . . .

Hi Alistair, no worries about the bumper. It'll be coming off again for fine tuning of the rear brackets so you can measure to your hearts desire.
The MoT had advisories that there was rust in the area, but with all the crud removed it's easier to see the extent.
