As the title says, taking the timing cover off my 19J tonight to trace the leak, any tips on ' special ' tools or such that i may need?

Cheers

get some cardboard and draw the shape of the case at least a foot square , then poke the bolts u take off in there relative point on the cardboard . the bolts are different lenghts , so you know what goes where on the rebuild :D .

watch you dont snap off any bolts - if there tight and feel like there siezed , get some heat on them .
Take your time and learn as u go :) .

I think you may need a puller for the crankshaft pulley. I'm not sure if you do on your engine but you do for a tdi engine. They can be a real pain to get off but some nearly fall off.
As sypher ays heat is the best way to undo tight bolts but a few good hits with a hammer often loosens them if you have no heat.

Cheers folks, i'll keep that all in mind.

Was going to do it last night but ended up going to cornwall to pick up some bull bars for £20, nice condition too but didn't get back till late so it's either today or the weekend.
