I think all the oil cooler hoses sweat a little especially the top one, its a pretty poor idea in this day and age using jubilee clips on an oil cooler flex hose from the factory.
I like jub clips form a mechs point ot view but recognise they have their wekanesses.

I did think about using some ear clamps but was worried in case it broke the outlet pipe

Bought the stainless steel genuine jubilee clips, also got the T bolt clamps on the other larger hoses which I really like those

The correct service procedure for the 6hp is essential, link in sig ;)

Uhh i've done a few 2.7's namely in Jag's and they always run quieter and sweeter on 5w40.

Hi buddy

U missed the bit out where sometimes u have to remove a crossmember and jack the engine up, to get the original pan out, lol, but seen reports of some years u dont have to, typical Land Rover

Many don’t change them as there normally still clean

Indeed , the oil must be done to the letter and at the correct temp , not a difficult job

That ZF oil, what a rip off that is, Mannol and ravenol is considerably cheaper and 100s on the D3 forum have got excellent results

Mixed opinions on the 5/40 , never been that brave , lol just bought some millers 5/30 engine oil

No need to remove x member just drop the pan as far as it will go and use a lever bar to snap the plastic spout bit off, this is why you need to fit the metal sump as the spout is now on the separate filter.

Pain in the ass but doable it you're flexable enough..

The plastic pans are good enough..

The steel pans can leak.

Very common, and have been since the mid 90's. You're old Freelander TD4 had them too, as do pretty much all high stressed engines these days. ;)

Cheers

Alas the last engine I saw was inside my old 2 1/4 series engine , lol ,, but hands up did get Turner engineering to do the block and cyl head as I didn’t know how to measure the new pistons , shells , skimmed cy head , etc , then put it all back together

Must admit really did enjoy the rebuild , well suppose I cheated a lot as Turner done a lot of the engineering

I imagine if I took a TDV6 engine apart I wouldn’t have a clue of what most items were

5w40 fully synthetic is the oil of choice for me. It's not about being brave, as 5w40 is listed as suitable for that engine. Maybe not in LRs book, but definitely in the PSA service manual. ;) Interestingly, the PSA engine doesn't suffer many crank failures either. Related to oil grade used, do you think? I suspect it is. The light weight 5w30 isn't going to support the bearings nearly as well as the heavier 5w40 grade recommend by PSA.

Service kit arrived and soon to be fitted. I’ve stripped and cleaned the FBH, but can’t really test it yet.

My mate has a Disco 3 as well, and he’s fitted a Turbotune box. He swears it increased the performance (which it seems to have done) while also improving mpg. Now, I’m a cynic. If you could do that, why wouldn’t they be set up like that from the factory? Some sort of emissions restriction?

The only thing I can think is that the box ups the fuelling, and my mate is using the on-board mpg calculator for reference, which may have a distorted reading because of the box. I’ll get him to do a proper mpg calc.

Does anyone know of someone who’s opened one of these boxes up?

Lots of people swear a proper tune/remap is better than one of the plug in boxes.
I had a tuning box on my tdi auto and it certainly made it shift, then I had it remapped and a larger intercooler and whilst it was a knatts cock better it wasnt better enoiugh to justify the price hike over the plug in box
Then I had a td5 with a cheap tuning box went ok, then got one of the proper boxes which pretty much did what a remap did and it was better again so I then got it remapped and a larger cooler and cant say I noticed sfa difference!
The tdi and td5 as std dont have anywheres near enough power, D3 and D4 much better.

I kept the D3 std as was sick of wasting money, do sometimes think more power would be nice but in reality what do I need the extra power for?

I think most of the boxes up the fuel rail pressure and some also increase the injeciton period, ie it gets more fuel at a higher pressure.
Tbh I cant see what a remap would do thats different?

Hi buddy

I did have a synergy ronbox fitted to my D3 , its tuned and designed according to the specific engine and not a Generic box , Took out the flat spots , however it really did affect the fuel consumption

On a run without the box I would get around 30-32 MPG with the ronbox would get around 24mpg , tested it through 6 x tank fills, with and without

So in the end I removed it because it simply didn't save on the mpg because of it pumping more fuel in

Had thought about remap but to be honest can’t justify the cost

It can't. The only way to increase power on a diesel is to add more fuel and possibly more air too.
Now, I’m a cynic. If you could do that, why wouldn’t they be set up like that from the factory? Some sort of emissions restriction?
You're right to be cynical, as there's no such thing as a free lunch. ;)

Highly likely, as the car's Ipack ECU won't know any different.

I’ve had a gentle remap from Mike at Dynachip on my D3 recently when he did the software patch for Egr removal. My mpg computer has risen from 22mpg round town to 24,
The car changes into a higher gear sooner now and holding the throttle at 30mph, it’s at 1300rpm which previously was around 1600rpm.
So probably something has improved but I know the trip computer don’t always tell the truth but rpm don’t lie.

I think the mpg or lio meter is around 10% out, from results of doing multiple tank fill results

Also heard the standard tuning box can wear injectors out quicker

Don't see the point in tuning the tdv6, plenty of power standard

Indeed I found that out , felt it made a difference when it had a full service, ran smoother

especially after I blanked the egrs and cleaned out the map sensor
