When fitting wading kits I’ve see people install a new timing case cover for a breather, this only seems necessary when the wading plug is fitted. The compressor belt tensioner gets in the way of of this breather being fitted. Is it necessary to fit the timing case breather, will it cause issues having the wading plug installed without one and if it is needed is there anyway of installing one with the compressor belt tensioner in the way??
 
It exists for a reason right.. might be worth it.. but i've not had the chance to go wading up to my timing case cover..
From what I understand it’s not for wading up to the time case cover but for a vacuum created when you leave the wading plug in, but I could be mistaken
 
If the wading plug is in and the engine cold, when the engine heats up the air inside the timing case expands and the internal pressure increases.
If the engine is hot (when the plug is inserted) and the vehicle enters the water the pressure inside the timing case will decrease (relative to atmospheric).


This change in pressure could (potentially/possibly/perhaps) damage seals or gaskets etc, a breather will maintain an equal pressure.
Without a breather the decrease in pressure (hot to cold) could suck in water through a compromised gasket or oil through a weakened seal and damage the belt over time.
